What's new

Russian Army Contingent arrived in Pakistan to participate in Pak-Russia Joint Exercise Druzhba-III

I never even seen the looslely based movie about Hill 3234, in real life 39 paratroopers held off 250-400 fighters believed to be Pakistani special forces, with no less then 200 being killed while the Soviets only suffered 6 deaths themselves.

15,000 casualties including none combat losses such as disease, accidents, suicides. Actually cambat losses are around 10k with most being from ambushes consisting of mines and IEDs. A lot of aircraft was also shot down or crashed due to mechanical problems, pilot error, or bad weather conditions.

The only convoys the Mujas managed to 'whipe out' were small resupply convoys consisting of 2-3 vehicles. In actually battle the mujas got spanked if they ever actually faced Soviet forces head on. Propaganda withstanding the only defeat the Soviets suffered was in the propaganda department since people are still ignorant of the war to this day.
250-400 SF? Bro.. total strength of SSG back than was under 1000... even today its around 2K+.

Thats like sending half your men to a foriegn country to take a dozen soviets out and losing a qauarter of your strength..

I saw the movie.. shows 1 “suspected” ISI/SSG fellow wearing aviators and hiding his face in most of the movie.

And I see russian propoganda... a small hill with Mujahideen popping on it like a mothafuka to get slaughtered by dug in soviet paratroopers.. I mean fk that... Id rather watch “Saving private Ryan” or fuking “Fury”..

Read a book.. Bear Trap by Brig (R) Tirimzi who ran the Afghan desk.
They took volunteers, usually a young captain or major embedded with the Mujahideen.. tasked on blowing soviet bases or installions!

The officers job was training the Mujas... plannin, coordinating and planning attacks, logistics and get the fuk outta there.

Doesnt matter bro.. the troops were mostly conscripts (apart from spetsnaz)... your troops were even selling Oil, tyres and batteries lol... alot of them junkies sucking afghan opium n heroine, fuking hash!

You also lost quiet a few jets etc to Pakistan.... and alot of defections by soviet and afghan commie pilots wasnt rare... we got over half a dozen MI-25s.... couple of Mig-21s, transport and ground attack planes...

Your bases were attacked as far as Uzbekistan were fuking attacked by ISI and Mujas!

Your hinds and jets even fell to AAA fire by Mujahideen..

The mujas were much more tougher than russians... surviving on days old naans, wearing tattered cloths in harsh winters... attacking soviets.

Come on homie...

Your entire colomns were wiped out in mountain ambushes... the same Rocket or homemade IED combo followed by machine gun sweeps... wiped out soviet soldiers..

There are a million videos on YT, showing Mujahideen Ambushing soviets..

Your biggest asset was the Hind and airpower... that was nullified by induction of Stingers (fuk the blowpipe missile and the overall european weapons by UK & France)..

You couldnt protect your tunnels, your main arteries (highways).... even your bases werent safe or under your control.

The only thing soviets had in controls was where they parked their tanks...

Even today NATO isnt even control of 40% of Afghanistan...

I won't say I completely understand the Russian mindset, but is this the right time to be discussing Russian losses in Afghan War????

Yahi tou issi liya main keh raha hoon yeh mere hai aur main ssg walon ko sath lekar jaon ga

kahen esa na ho koi SSG wala apki bhabhi bana de usse
on serious note, what happen to AK-103 i heard they were been evaluated for SF's ?

. . .
Strength of SSG has risen to 8 battalions, while two more battalions are not up to full strength as yet.

It has come a long long way from the days of the Soviets.

.
Firstly how did the Soviets "lose" to Pakistan when there was never any formal fighting between the Who countries? The Soviets controlled almost every major city and won almost every major battle.

Secondly Perestroika was a social and economic reform and the Soviet Union pulled out in 1989 not 87. Communist Afghans forces, which had a poor combat record fought on until 1993 without Russian support, so much for that Soviet defeat and 'powerful' Mujas which got spanked in combat the few times they decided to actually fight.

I don't think anyone here is doubting that the Soviets lost any major battle militarily. Simply put, the Soviets got exhausted and realized its not worth wasting more resources in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan or Pakistan were never a threat to the Soviet Union. I mean heck, the Warsaw Pact could put more soldiers on the field then the entire population of Afghanistan. Pakistan's planners were well aware that there is not a single chance of Pakistan coming out alive, if the Soviets decided to invade Pakistan.

Russian Soldiers are wearing helmets and full gear while our guys are wearing caps and sunglasses in the house to house mock-up exercise, I don't understand the sense of discipline by our Soldiers, why they need sunglasses for house fighting, why not wearing real time combat gear ?

To all Pakistani members. We have guests in the country. Is this how we are going to welcome them? Now is NOT the time to bring up 'dark chapters' etc. Now is the time for friendship. A guest has arrived in our home, let's make them feel comfortable and act like the hospitable hosts that is our true tradition.

These 15yo kids who are reminding Russians about their Dark Chapter actually do not remember 1971.

Russian Soldiers are wearing helmets and full gear while our guys are wearing caps and sunglasses in the house to house mock-up exercise, I don't understand the sense of discipline by our Soldiers, why they need sunglasses for house fighting, why not wearing real time combat gear ?

This does happen. Our soldiers are least interested to have their complete gear on despite everything is available for them. This is kinda odd.

A bad attempt at photo op.
