The new Hermes A missile has a built-in guidance system capable of monitoring targets in the most adverse weather conditions. The guidance system consists of an infrared and laser detector, where the helicopter fires the laser beam at the target, the missile follows the Laser reflection on the target, but if there is interference on the laser radiation, the heat seeker will continue to follow the target by the heat emitted from it.

The first phase of the missile starts at the launch from the helicopter, during which the target area is monitored. It starts at 1300 km / h and then separates. The second phase starts at a speed of 3600 km / h.

I wonder if that pod on the left pylon in the picture is still used for the delivering of multiple UAV's in flight? There was mention of that many years ago when they first developed the weapons package for the Ka-52.

The pod came in 2 types. One was to carry baggage and tools for the pilots to repair the chopper in the field and the other would carry up to 5 small UAV's that would pop out of the bottom of the pod, fly ahead of the chopper and film target areas while relaying imagery back to the pilot's image screen in real time. The concept sounded great, just never saw actual pictures or footage of it in action. Not sure if those UAV's would be recoverable either.

Couldn't find anything about the UAVs pods in Russia.. but some studies do exist in the US, so it is possible that Russia might have developed some too..

Do you know what those pods are anyway? Are they just tool boxes?
Don't spend more time looking for me, bro. I was just wondering if you already knew or found out.

I am not sure, I took a quick look and found some scholarly articles explaining the concept.. for the one on the Katran, it looks like a weapon's pod.. like the ones we saw on the F-15 Silent Eagle.. but for sure we will find out..it is no secret..
As for tools the Katran has enough room to carry a few needed tools inside its body..
This is not a bicycle..

Hey, sometimes you need a jack, maybe a portable hydraulic car lift a ratchet and air compressor, a chainsaw extension ladder, couple of sledgehammers, 3 RPG's a sink a grill a tent for camping a porto potty and a wheel barrow looool - need a big tool box for all that junk! :enjoy:
