Atleast a battalion sized armor assualt east of Robotyne breached the defensive lines and took control of the trenches according to pro russian Youtubers. Looks like the ukrainians believe its time to make a push.

This really explains the utility of the cluster bombs. These defences are horrendous to breakthrough, overwhelming artillery is a reliable way through,
Apparently the ukrainians even did some airstrikes prior to the assault. Lots of footage of russian anti air systems and artillery being destroyed these past few weeks. Maybe the ukrainians do have the upperhand regarding long range artillery in this area.
Too bad they couldn't just bury the Russians in the trenches with bulldozers. Not like Gulf War 1.
Mines seems to be the main obstacle. It still remains to be seen if those much touted ”main defence lines” are actually manned by anything else than drafted personel with a rifle. The russians do seem eager to defend those forward positions.
“but why has there been little progress for Ukrainian soldiers breaking through the front lines? My understanding is that these front lines are designed to be “ broken through” until the attacker gets to the first actual defensive line, several km deep, which nobody apparently has, yet. The idea is that those breaking through” will get bogged down in this area and then will have difficulty escaping , due to planes dropping mines behind them artillery as well, btw.
