Russia to provide Lebanon with choppers

Al-Nahar reports Lebanese president signed military cooperation deal with Russian counterpart Lebanese President Michel Suleiman returned Friday from a two-day visit to Moscow and announced Russia had agreed to provide his country with Mi-24 helicopters, Al-Nahar reported.

Russia announced in December of 2008 that it would provide Lebanon with 10 Mig-29 type planes, but Suleiman asked instead to receive the state of the art military choppers and the advanced missiles they carry.

The first Lebanese president ever to visit Moscow, Suleiman signed a military cooperation deal with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday. The latter described the visit as a "milestone" in relations between the two countries.

ASIAN DEFENCE: Russia to provide Lebanon with choppers

Lebanon refuse to take mig29. Even it was free.

can't afford the maintenance...no crew

they only like to see israeli f-16s in there skyes. poor minds.they can't stand ever.

For the record it might be worth noting that at the moment the Lebanese air force are still flying Hawker Hunters an aircraft that entered service with the RAF in the middle '50s, I would guess that HAIDER is bang on with the problems of accepting Fulcrums, they cost millions a year to maintain (couldn't put a figure on it but for reference in the RAF an average fighter jet costs £10-12m a year to maintain, not including refits/upgrades so the £60m unit cost of a Typhoon is a p*** in the ocean over a 30 year+ service life, however I digress.)
