Russia to deliver ammunition worth $1 billion to India

this is all after VK sings Khulasa, of 2 days ammo
i can only say, WTF???? This is very serious.
Bullets, bombs, grenades, etc should be produced at home in case of war so that we can have it in short notice.

I think , this deal is for the ammunition of T-90S/M currently in service

As you know India Received 16000 APFSDS (armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot) rounds for T-90S between march-June 2012 ,
As of April 2012 We were in negotiation for delivery of further 66000 APFSDS Rounds and 10000 Konkurs-M ATGM
So my guess is that it is this deal which has been Formalized

Government on overdrive to tide over tanks’ ammunition crunch

NEW DELHI: With Army chief General V K Singh ominously warning his entire tank fleet is ``devoid of critical ammunition to defeat enemy tanks'', the government is fast-tracking orders to arm the T-90S main-battle tanks with missiles and specialized ammunition for a greater punch on the western front with Pakistan.

Top sources say contracts for 25,000 Invar missiles and 66,000 APFSDS (armour-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot) rounds for the Russian-origin T-90S fleet as well as 10,000 Konkurs-M anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), at an overall cost of around Rs 6,000 crore, are in the final stages.

There are two big contracts for the 3UBK-Invar missiles, which are potent anti-tank weapons with a five-km strike range, in the pipeline. The first is for 10,000 missiles for Rs 1,386 crore from Russia for which a ``draft'' CCS (cabinet committee on security) note has already been prepared and circulated, say sources.

The rest 15,000 missiles will be ordered from defence PSU Bharat Dynamics Ltd, at a cost of over Rs 2,000 crore, for which the contract negotiations committee (CNC) is in progress.

Another over Rs 2,000 crore contract will be for the 66,000 APFSDS rounds fired from the 125mm smooth-bore guns of T-90S tanks. The reserve stocks for this specialized ammunition is down to only four days, as Army vice-chief Lt-Gen S K Singh told the parliamentary standing committee on defence on Monday.

The Army is also going to get the 10,000 Konkurs-M ATGMs directly from Russia for over Rs 1,200 crore. ``All these contracts should be inked within the next few months,'' said a source

Government on overdrive to tide over tanks? ammunition crunch - Times Of India

So if we add all the deals , we get

10000 3UBK-Invar Missiles - Rs 1386 crores
66,000 APFSDS rounds - Rs 2000 Crores
10,000 Konkurs-M ATGMs - Rs 1200 Crores

So we get a total of Rs 5586 Crores which corresponds to 1 Billion USD

This single deal will go a long way in solving our Stockpile Shortages

With this deal our stockpile of APFSDS rounds will go up to 110000 Rounds , which is still short of the 150000 Round Target , but enough for at least 4 Weeks of Conflict

Our Stockpile of ATGMs will increase to 40000 Missiles , Which is still below the 50000 required , But we will achieve the requirement with induction of 8300 Man Portable Javelin ATGM ,
We will also get 1800 Helfires Air Launched ATGM ,and 2000 AASM Anti Armour Bomb kits along with Apaches LongBow and Rafale

What many people don't understand is the issue highlighted by the ex COAS wrt the shortage of ammo was a process being resolved by deals signed in 2010 with Israel and Russia and these deals are coming to fruition this year with deliveries beginning nowish- this deal is just a cherry on top.

Indo Russian friendship is time tested  . There is no need to prove our friendship . We dont need to prove that Sun rises in East again and again , Right ? :D

So is this why you have to import shells for T-90 instead of making them inhouse under a TOT arrangement? Just curious :)
