Russia supports Pakistan SCO membership

CHICAGO - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said his country supports Pakistan joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The SCO already is working on special regulations that will enable observer countries to join the SCO, he said at the G8 summit. Pakistan has SCO observer status. In 2009, it expressed a desire to join because one of the SCO’s main purposes is co-operation in the war on terrorism.
