Russia Supplies Indian Navy With Over 100 Engines for MiG-29 Fighter Jets

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The RD-33MK turbojet engine is a modernized modification of the basic RD-33 engine installed on all versions of famous MiG-29 fighter jet. The engine has high thrust-to-weight ratio, low specific fuel consumption and is equipped with modern digital electronic management and control system.

"Chernyshev Moscow Machine-Building Enterprise [part of UEC] has manufactured and delivered over 100 RD-33MK turbojet engines for the Indian Navy. The deliveries were carried out within the earlier agreed contract between the Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG and the Indian Defense Ministry," the press release said. UEC is a subsidiary company of the United Industrial Corporation, producing various engines including those for military and civil aviation.

We have 45 jets, 100 engines are just about right to increase the serviceability.

Or is there possibility of additional Mig-29Ks for IAC-1 due to commissioned in 2018?

It's 90 engines installed on 45 aircraft (45*2 engines)

And 10 spare engines. The spare engine inventory is usually higher for Russian aircraft due to lower service life and higher number of engine snags.

The spare engine inventory for Su30 MKI is much higher than the Mig29 inventory due to design limitations and higher performance requirements of the aircraft. Indian topography and climate only adds to it.

P.S: Engine spare inventory is usually smaller for Western engines even in civil aviation. Infact, that's also a marketing factor for the engine.

Do we have enough jets for 2 ac? I mean we have 45 Mig 29k. 30 are for INS Viky. 5 are trainers. So I believe 10 will be on shore for replacement and maintenance purposes.

Are we allowing the prospect of an empty IAC 1? We either should order 45 more for IAC 1. Or Tejas should be ready by that time. Seeing its an stobar IAC will be used to maximum by Mig 29k.

IAC is supposed to carry only 10 m29. Plus 10 Tejas. Remaining is rotary wing.

The existing Aircrafts came with engines installed and spares, so you are looking at about 200 engines
