Even if Taiwan re unify with the mainland, Taiwan can still retain its democratic system and financial system. Those are already on the table. Even the name PRC or ROC can be discuss.
In fact almost everything is already set to go. Both sides people already can travel freely, trade freely and can choose either side to study. Only thing left is basically a peace treaty. Once the peace treaty is signed, Taiwan will automatically no longer be a US protectorate.
