Russia says no to technology transfer for Smerch rockets

Actually India had a plan to develop pinaka MK2 with 120 KM range. The specification of rockets were very impressive. Rocket will climb to 40 KM before hitting the target at 1.80 Mach speed. I do not know what happened to Plan. We should complete that MK2 .

Source for 1 mach , 120 pinaka rockets and will it be guided or unguided.

Yes, 5000 rocket production was planned.

Oh the plan still exists, but with diminished incentive for the DRDO. You see, by building the 120 km rocket, they would essentially be positioning two products with the range category to the IA, not a very wise choice economy wise.

The DRDO is pushing for the Prahaar at that range, and would prefer the IA induct it for 100 km+ range targets over a Pinaka rocket. This is why unless they fail to entice orders for the Prahaar, the DRDO will be less than inclined to develop a cheaper product for the IA.

And btw, the current PInaka rockets do reach Mach 4, so it is quite unlikely that the MKII (or MKIII as the case may be) will attain just Mach 1.08 before impact.

Well buying from China, at the moment is not an option. We do not know what future hold for us although. :)

While the Pinaka will not be developed further into a larger system, its success and the experience gained from the program has led the ARDE and its partner organizations, to launch a project to develop a long range MRL similar to the Smerch MLRS. A 7.2-metre rocket for the Pinaka MBRL, which can reach a distance of 120 km and carry a 250 kg payload will be developed. These new rockets can be fired in 44 seconds, have a maximum speed of mach 4.7, rise to an altitude of 40 km before hitting its target at mach 1.8 and can destroy an area of 3.9 km2. Integrating UAVs with the Pinaka is also in the pipeline, as DRDO intends to install guidance systems on these rockets to increase their accuracy. Sagem completed delivery of its Sigma 30 laser-gyro artillery navigation and pointing system to be equipped with the Pinaka multiple launch rocket system in June 2010.[16] The Sigma 30 artillery navigation and pointing system is designed for high-precision firing at short notice. Successful testing was conducted at the Chandipur Test Range in January 2013,[17] and another successful test of the Pinaka Mk II, which has range more than 55 km, was conducted on 20 December 2013.[18]

China has much better rockets。

As a matter of fact,China mass-produces the best rockets and rocket launchers in the world。

China also produces a multitude of rockets to suit the needs of different customers,from the beggars to the super rich

Go and ask for help。:P

Good move. Thanks to Russia, our aggressive government will push for indigenization just like the M777 was replaced with Dhanush.

Pinaka MK-2 is 55-60 km range and in testing phase
120 km range MBRL is still in design phase.

M777 is likely to be replaced with another light gun not certainly by Dhanush.
The order of Dhanush was long due and will increase but still lighter arty will be needed.

In the coming couple of years, we will see a surge in domestic weaponry replacing foreign ones.

No ToT? No imports. Simple.

The real question should be Why do India require Technology of a Smerch like MLRS from Russia ? Turkey did it in 90's, Pakistan is manufacturing own guided rockets, China has a vast of rockets in similar class. Serbia is producing similar products. Israel has own standarts but Thinking a country like India, producing manny different missile/rockets, where lacks behind of the level of technology many countries reached way before, make me surprize.

What I wrote is from 2012. No new news after that.
IA's arty is becoming weak. We cant wait for it too long. We will have to purchase Rockets or Arty if not both. I will vote for rockets but may be from another source if Russia is becoming noncooperative.

The real question should be Why do India require Technology of a Smerch like MLRS from Russia ?
To produce locally for IA.
We still not have designed MBRL with 120Km range. Its in design n development phase
The denial may the reason to kill indigenous effort.
