Also what is the status of Zhuk AE? is it operational on any Russian fighter as yet?

Nope, the older zhuk ae does but has a peak power of only 3-4 kw and only 640 t/r elements with paltry 150 km-200 km search range, possibly even less.

In other words not optimal for present, let alone future needs.

Fga-35 with 1000 t/r elements has been on trials for quite some time but with russians putting 0 orders till date for mig-35 and preferring su-30sm to it,u know the reasons well

Only if they could guarantee that there would be no delay in deliveries and support.

The Russian arms industry is ready to offer India, according to media reports, not only the Su-30MKI, but also the MiG-35, if the country refuses to purchase the French jet Rafale.

RIA Novosti learned this on Wednesday at the Aero India-2015 Exhibition from the head of RSK MiG, Sergey Korotkov, who was expressing his company’s desire to participate in new tenders and competitions in India.

“We have everything that is needed to compete. We have not lost hope that a new tender or competition will be announced,” said Mr. Korotkov, adding that RSK is ready to offer India the more advanced version of jet fighters – the MiG-35.

Earlier, Indian media reported that the Indian Ministry of Defense might refuse to purchase 126 fighter jets for its Air Force from Rafale, which won the tender in 2012, and instead buy the Russian Su-30MKI.

Shortly after that, the Business Standard, citing sources in the Indian Ministry of Defense, reported that New Delhi would not be buying the Rafale jets, because of the high prices. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, they said that, in terms of price attractiveness and reliability, the Russian multi-role Su-30 fighters are comparable to the Rafale.

Russia ready to offer India the MiG-35 to replace the Rafale fighter jet | Russia & India Report
Russia first need to start producing MIG-35 only than people will get interested in this Jet

.
Its Impossible to say anything that India why shortlist only eurofighter and rafale and why other lost. the necessary thing is only available to the authority see the test of all MMRCA jets.

.
The Strike Optimised Sukhoi which has been offered by Russia is a way better choice than this MiG-35......!!
An upgraded Su-34 with newer radar and associated avionics and subsystems will be a deadly choice......
Considering the endurance, range and strike capability it provides the Su-34 will be the ideal alternative if at all an alternative is considered..!!

Dear Russia, NO ONE CARES.

You can keep offering what you like, doesn't mean India is interested. The Russians have a most bizarre way of operating, they keep offering products that are already on offer to India, this is just noise for the sake of noise.

@sancho I still say 2 sqdns of these/29K birds might not be a bad option to mitigate the risk of falling squadron strength, untill MMRCA is sorted out.

Do you really think IAF will buy naval fighters? More over, that would mean IAF would have to keep just a small number of Migs operational beyond 2025, which will cost them pretty much for maintenance and upgrades.

But as I often say, the falling squad issue is not a real one, otherwise we wouldn't had added 40 + 42 orders of MKIs to HAL's production line, but would had ordered at least half of them directly from IRKUT. Take the Jamnagar or Kalaikunda air based for example. Both operated 1 squad of A2A and 1 squad of A2G fighters in the past to provide IAF with the full range of capabilities. Kalaikunda now operates a squad of MKIs to do both A2A & A2G, not only with higher performance, but also with far greater reach (up to A&N) compared to what was able before and the same can be seen at Jamnagar with the upgraded Mig 29s. In the past they only provided cover for the Jags, but after the upgraded thy can do CAS, SEAD and maritime attacks, with even more performance than the Jags offer, while retaining good self defence capabilities too. Here a simple upgrade one squadron, basically makes a full squadron of Jags useless. With each multi role squad we induct now, we basically can phase out 1 Mig 21 + 1 Mig 27 squad, without having operational disadvantages.

So replacement for the older fighters we phase out is not the issue, but that new squads that we induct are basically bound to replacement, rather than to raise new squads in the east or south. The 42 sqaudron figure includes several newly raised squads at new bases all around India and that obviously will be more difficult to do, when you have to balance the replacements first. But here again, the numbers alone doesn't cut it, but additional capability is needed. We can't raise new squads in the east with Mig 29s, that could be inferior to J10s and J11s they might face, nor can we use LCA MK1 squads there (not even FOC once). So if we want to add new squads and more capability, the only options are MKIs, MMRCA's or Pak Fa's.

HAL will license produce RD33 S3 engines along with UPG uprgrades for rest of Mig29 fleet, it will also support Overhaul for Mig29K fleet. The price point for both Mig 29K and Mig 35 is extremely attractive, almost half the cost of MKI, and the A2A performance is extremely potent, almost half of the MKI

True but we need to realize that adversaries on both sides too are inducting mrca's by a boat load of numbers, atleast on the east, for minimum parity we need some sqdns strength. With both MK2 and MMRCA delayed, there should be some quick fix.

Depends on the role, I dont think J10's A2A performance is better than Mig 35's from what little is know of the J10, as far as J11's are concerned, in A2A combat if Mig 35 is offered with a decent AESA that can see the J11 around the same range then it can handle the massive radar advantage it has, because in WVR it can run circles around it. I think a 29 based AESA platform can do pretty good in both east and the west.

The Series 3 is not used in the 29K, so that has no benefit and for half the costs, you logically get far less capability in return! No AESA / PESA radar, no stand off strike capabilities, range limitations, no canards or TVC...

That's why MKI squads were raised in the east and why the upgraded MKIs most likely will be diverted there too.

You suggested the 29Ks not Mig 35s and the 29Ks with Zhuk ME will be inferior to Chinese fighters. The Mig 35 can at least provide AESA, but if it can keep up performance wise in general is debatable.

You might have missed what I said,

No I didn't, that's why I asked you if you think IAF would accept naval fighters and the Mig 29K is very different from the Mig 35 proposed in the MMRCA.

No more MiGs ... Please.

Why the US and swedes so silent?:shout:
