Russia lifts embargo on weapons supplies to Pakistan

What is the track record so far? have they been able to get their hands on em'? cause you know..... Chinese sell everything.

Waiting for a UCAV :(
BLA has been showcasing their shoulder fired missiles back in a program done by Al Jazera. I took snapshots of those SAMs that looked like blowpipes .
we have conducted successive raids and recovered some missiles but as usual the equipment doesnt contain any serial numbers or country of origin , yes they are Russian origin but who manufactures and supplies them is shrouded in mystery but the repeatedly the tracks lead to Indian conciliates setup near Pakistani borders in remote areas of Afghanistan where there is hardly any Afghan population to justify setting these centers up which only suggest a more sinister motive .. check Baloch Samachar and Indian conciliates and you will get some interesting information.

Bramdagh Bughti taunted the host of a Pakistani channel saying his organisation was seeking help from every country that was hostile to Pakistan and it was not just India but he was seeking help from Israel as well.

we should only buy if they give us under license production.....

Should we goo for Mi17 Attack because we already use this system and we can easily upgrade current one into MI 17 Attack????

Thank you Russia but we don't want to buy 80s Soviet-styles helicopters. We are pleased you release ban, it doesn't means we should buy immediately,

Let's focus on Turkey or China helicopters competitive, read paragraph below under Pakistan.

I have no doubt, it is certain about 85% that Pakistan is already deal with Turkey on agreement to purchase T-129.

We will reject any Soviet styles helicopters made by Russia that were shot down many times by Stinger missiles.

Army Aviation is very happy with the Mi-17s that we have , they have performed very well in the ongoing operations in the north west. Mi-17 has been a work horse for us, operational cost is quite good , we just can't seem to get enough of them

If the Mi-35 and Mi-25 have similar operational costs , and they pack a good punch in counter insurgency then these will be good additions in Army Aviation.

Lets see how things move, majority of our equipment is US origin but we have mixed Russian and Chineses equipment in our inventory as well , the Mi17s are very good example of that.

America will be watching this space maybe they wont show disapproval openly but perhaps put pressure behind closed doors given the situation it has with Russia.

MOSCOW- Russia has lifted an embargo on sales of weapons and military hardware to Pakistan and is planning to supply Islamabad with attack helicopters, the head of Russia's state defense corporation Rostec said today.
"Such a decision was made. We are negotiating the sales of Mi-35 helicopters to the country," Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov said. A source with the Pakistani Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti there had never been an embargo on Russian sales to Pakistan in the first place.
It was rather that cooperation between Moscow and Islamabad was limited due to Russia's intensive trade with India, Pakistan's long-term rival in the region.
Russia has been supplying its Mi-8 helicopters to Iran, among others. In 2012, the two countries struck a deal worth $4.3 billion for the export modification of Russia's nigh-time strike chopper Mig Mi-28N, dubbed "Night Hunter" and for Mi-35 attack helicopters, a total of 40 aircraft.

still remains 15%, remember you are USA's one of big markets, they will not want to lose it.
Beside even if you make order, in future because of USA, there might be delay of delivery.
and finally you might not like russia but you can not deny their good product quality at low price.

Well, its been predicted long time ago, only country who can meet Pak Helo requirement is " Russia". US is short of Helicopter, Europe is too expensive, Turkey Helo has engine issue, China has engine issue. Now only Russia left and Pakistan is lucky they removed the longtime embargo.
Russia is exploring new market after India bought Longbow. Its some how act of Congress (India) who's Pro west policy push Russians toward Pakistan.
Pakistan Army Aviation can easily maintained because Mi17i engine is similar to Mi 35 attack helo.

Pakistan should pay attention to Ukraine/Syria Crisis and its helicopters, they have been shot down by MANPAD despite the fact, we have very short memories.

Two Ukrainian Mi-24s shot down by MANPADS
May 2 2014

Two Ukrainian Mil Mi-24 'Hind' combat helicopters were shot down in eastern Ukraine on 2 May during a major escalation of violence in the ongoing Ukraine crisis.

According to initial statements published by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence (MoD), both helicopters were shot down by man-portable air-defence systems (MANPADS), while an Mil Mi-8 'Hip' transport aircraft sustained damage from ground fire. All of the helicopters were attacked overnight close to Slavyansk in the troubled Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.

Two crew members from the Mi-24s were killed in the incidents, with several more wounded, the MoD stated. The pilot of one of the Mi-24s is understood to be badly wounded and to have been captured by pro-Russian forces.

The MoD stated that four people have already been arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident.

Ukraine's Army Aviation unites have a fleet of about 60 Mi-24 helicopters of various types in service. The powerful 'Hind' can carry up to eight troops as well as a range of weaponry, including a cannon up to 30 mm, rocket pods, and guided missiles.

ANALYSIS
7669600.jpg

The violence in Ukraine has rapidly escalated since the launching of a major Ukrainian effort to retake several key towns in East Ukraine from protestors and armed groups. Despite this, the shooting down of the two Ukrainian Army Aviation helicopters could signal the crises moving into a new stage of intense conflict.

Although little information is available on the MANPADS used, they are likely to have been an Igla, either the earlier 9K310 Igla-1 (SA-16 'Gimlet'), or the later 9K38 Igla (SA-18 'Grouse'), which are in service with both the Ukrainian and Russian armed forces.

Seeing MANPADS outside of formal armed forces has historically been very rare, and their potential proliferation has been a cause of great concern to many nations. The MoD stated that the "fact of the [MANPAD] use against the Ukrainian Armed Forces testifies that there are well-trained and armed groups are currently acting in Donetsk Oblast." However, the use of MANPADS in the conflict does not necessarily demonstrate the involvement of Russian forces in the incident. In early March local media reported that Igla systems had gone missing from two Ukrainian military units near Lvov.

Unless equipped with modern defensive aid suites (DAS), helicopters are highly vulnerable to MANPADS due to their normally low flight altitude and comparatively low speed. Recently MANPADS have proliferated widely within the ongoing Syrian civil war, with many Syrian government helicopters having been shot down by them in the past year.

It remains to be seen whether this shooting is simply an isolated incident, or whether Ukrainian helicopters will continue to be attacked by MANPADS while operating over East Ukraine. If the MANPADS threat continues it may force Ukraine to deploy ground attack aircraft such as the Sukhoi Su-25 'Frogfoot' in the place of helicopters like the Mi-24. However, were Ukraine to begin using fixed wing aircraft against its own people, then it would appear almost inevitable that some form of overt Russian intervention into the conflict would follow.
