Russia lifts embargo on weapons supplies to Pakistan

its interesting that when India is acquiring Apaches, Pak is acquiring Mi 25.
Yep! India rejected the Mi 25 and purchasing the superior Apaches instead.

Mi-25 is an export version of Russia’s Mi-24(P) Hind attack helicopter. These are pretty dated platforms, entering service in 1972. Of course there have been modifications to give it more teeth. But then, you can scrub a donkey all you can, but you can never turn it into a horse!! :P

Upgraded Mi-25/35 of Indian Air Force.

mi35 -8 troops , 12,000 kg max takeoff wt
mi17 -30 troops
As a combination of armoured gunship and troop transport, the Mi-24 has no direct NATO counterpart.
their only weakness is MANPADs as long as the TTP and BLA are prevented from getting hold of those shoulder fired missiles... these Hinds will make TTP and BLA a history very soon.

some 14.5 mm cannons did slip through Afghanistan that played a part in our helicopter losses that were shot down but they have been taken out.. the hinds have far better survive-ability against heavy MG fire than our other existing gunships.

a Drone + Hind combo will mark the end of large taliban concentrations.

@Irfan Baloch,

Did Russia even have a ban or embargo against Pakistan for arms sales in the first place?? I don't think so.

this donkey will do just fine for what we need it for in our COIN operations. its not a Vs India copter purchase so please dont make it a Vs India thread

maybe you are right but Invon is not really known for Hollywood melodramatic. we were in direct confrontation back in the 70s and 80s and then there is Indian angle as well. Russians just simply avoided military relations which have changed recently.
just like Indians and Chinese are also warming up to each other and 1962 debacle is being put aside.

This MI-28 in my opinion would be ideal for supplementing or even replacing the Cobras.

WRONG

it wont supplement Cobras
it wont be ideal replacement of Cobras

I will surpass Cobra by miles and more than supplement and replace it. its a beast, its a monster and only comparable to Apaches where it gives a much expensive American copter good run for its money.

pakistan will not buy russian helos due to under the table commision and govt love for turkish goods

That's understandable Gov of nawaz sharif has already personal businesses established in Turkey. On the other hand this is Pak Military to Russian Gov deal most likely no Pakistani Gov involved.

Then where is the question of lifting a non existent ban in the first place?? it was more of a virtual decision to not supply any weapons to Pakistan. The India factor is still existing as of now.

Looks like a fake news spread by an arms maker for marketing. Lets see where it leads to - though Pakistan is sending delegation after delegation to Moscow to get some thaw in the supply decision.

Interesting! seems like this machine will help PA to merge two different mission profiles using single platform, cost effective . I wonder if MI-17 at this point are being escorted by cobra to neutralize threats before they land/takeoff during missions?
yes + our Hueys with Vietnam style side MG are acting as escorts

but these wont be primary troop carriers but in very secret and important missions they will drop special forces and provide fire support during landing and extraction

it will lead to Indian reaction and complaints of tilting the natrual balance in the subcontinent.

what else.

everything goes. the maker gets some publicity and we get some chuckles on the forum. I can already see the panic and aggressive postings on this thread.

lets enjoy while it lasts. when its over some Indian can open a thread celebrating the cancellation of the "deal" after Indian opposition to Putin ;)

Remember the statement of formal CIA and some other American Journalist about US-PAK relation is...

"US lost its most reliable ally in the region because of its policies" "Most strategic partner in the region"

I think there was an armed version of mi8/17 not the heavily armoured 25/35
