India has displayed interest in the Il-112 aircraft, details about which were introduced to the Indian Prime Minister by Dmitry Rogozin, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister.

Dmitry Rogozin, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister introduced the technological features of the Il-112 aircraft to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, while he visited the Voronezh Aircraft Building Enterprise VASO.

"This plane is of interest for some of our foreign partners. I myself handed the prospect for specifications on the airframe to Prime Minister of India, Modi," Rogozin said.

He stated that the aircraft can be made to suit both military and civilian specifications.

Additionally, the Il-112 will have unique capabilities, including being able to land on the ground and on unequipped airfields, and being able to raise bulky loads.

Rogozin said the terrain in India is mountainous and the country needs to support the military forces.

"They have showed a preliminary interest in that," said Rogozin.

If this plane was ready 5 years ago, it would have been a good compititor to the C-295W and C-27J. Now the C295 is most likely to secure all orders for planes of this class among all the services (including Coast Guard).

Both belong to different class.

Sadly, MTA was in a category of its own. With 20 tons payload over 2000 km, there isn't too many options to replace the plan except maybe KC-390 of Embraer, Brazil. It's difficult to see C-130 as a replacement of MTA as both have different roles albeit with similar payload characteristics.

Good Day!

It'd be really good had we joined Brazilians in the KC-390 project.

This whole MTA by the previous government is a joke.

what are load carry capacity of IL-112

"The IL-112 has a maximum cruise speed of 550km/h to 580km/h. It can fly at an altitude of 9,000m. The maximum take-off weight of the aircraft is 20t and the maximum payload is 6t. The aircraft has a range of 1000 km with a payload of 6t and 5,000km with a payload of 2t."

P.S: There is no market for this aircraft in India as long as C-295 is being manufactured.

The Airbus Defence and Space C295 is a new generation, very robust and reliable, highly versatile tactical airlifter able to carry up to nine tonnes of payload or up to 71 personnel, at a maximum cruise speed of 260 kt /480 km/h.

Range (Without winglets) : 3,000 kg (6,600 lb) payload - 4,600 km
6,000 kg (13,200 lb) payload - 3,700 km
9,250 kg (20,400 lb) payload - 1,333 km

Now, with the new C295W version equipped with winglets, the aircraft is capable of transporting more payload over larger distances in the hot and high conditions typical of various countries included in this tour of the region, resulting in fuel savings of around 4% and increased safety margins in mountainous regions.

Meanwhile, updated Pratt & Whitney PW127 engines add power in climb and cruise, improving all round performance, especially in hot and high conditions. The engine changes increase payload by 1 500 kg at 25 000 feet, raise maximum operational altitude from 24 000 to 26 000 feet and increase payload by 1 ton from hot and high airfields. The uprated engine option has been certified and is available separate to the C295W.

Rafael Tentor, Senior Vice President, said that the 90 kilos of winglets and modifications added to the existing C 295 aircraft would enable it to operate in India’s hot as well as high Himalayan airfields.
