I just hope it is being seriously worked upon with all backing of powers relevant in Pakistan.

It should be done in a way that PPP can't be able to play Sindh card to save her incompetence.

No need to declare openly or make any drum/baja as this will be considered non serious...

See the recent arrival of FWO/Army in Karachi...Did Imran make any noise on that? He just made a surprise move and called in army...Making noises before doing an act means you are fooling people....

Surprise moves are what make you look more credible/serious and left your opponent red faced....Just need to see recent saga.

So, Don't make noise...No need to even DECLARE. Just take over - one by one - while in stealth mode.

A SILENT TAKE OVER....

Prayers for Imran Khan.

This is why people of Karachi voted for PTI. If he makes this happen then he will keep his election promise otherwise expect a serious dent in seats from Karachi in 2023.

PPP will cry and wail (do randi rona as our upcountry friends say). I hope the establishment backs IK and PTI if such a move is taken.

Once again you are doing the same cartoonish thing.

As much as I want this to happen, I have lost all hope from this useless hukoomat that is all but mouths and words.

If they actually come in Karachi, Then Talk, Otherwise don’t boot polish PTI please.

We saw him as our last hope, And he betrayed us, Now either he utilizes the remaining time he has to fulfill his promises or go to fu**ing hell

Its not in the interest of Pakistan.

We know the capabilities of PTI as well. So no thank you. No shortcuts.

LONDON: Pakistan Army and Pak spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence with the support of China are planning to declare Karachi a federal territory to usurp its resources, Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader

Altaf Hussain
said.

"Pakistan Army and ISI along with China have completed its nefarious design to declare Karachi a federal territory to usurp its resources," a statement quoted Hussain as saying.

Hussain remarks come in response after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that he has asked the Army to assist the authorities in cleaning up in the aftermath of the rain in Karachi.

"According to the nefarious design, under the guise of the task of cleaning the city, Karachi is being handed over to the Army," Hussain said.

He said that federal ministers of PTI government are making open statements in the favour of "nefarious" design of Army to take Karachi in the control of Islamabad.

"Rather than to give more autonomy, rights and power to Karachi, Imran Khan-led government are trying to take into federal control of this megacity, is strongly condemnable," the MQM leader said.

Altaf Hussain called people to come forward to foil this conspiracy of Army and Pakistan government.

This is totally false news, government can't do this because they don't have majority in senate. I mean they can pass the bill but both PPP and PMLN will deny it. Feel free to correct me if i am wrong.

I think this news has come from Altaf Hussain directly to Indian media. As much as Karachiites want this to happen, PTI government will not do it until the last 6 months of the tenure to get the votes again.

Government is able to do few things without having the majority so if they want, they can do it but it has to be initiated from Pindi data darbar.

Yup I expected the next step would be slow encroachment/stepping in of provincial responsibilities by the federal government in Karachi.

Personally these sort of political games aren’t to my liking, but if it helps Karachi, then good. Eventually, the only proper solution is devolution of power Karachi, a local assembly, an elected mayor, local tax collection, councils and local authorities. Karachi needs basic infrastructure, investment in everything from energy and grid, to waste management and water supply, and of course transport and metros. I don’t see it happening with the current set up and I’m doubtful whether this new political game will make any difference.
Will this be a permanent situation?
No, certainly not, for that you need proper legislative change. And that’s a long process. This action (whatever the extent of it is) will be limited in time and scope, and in my opinion it’s motivated by other squabbles between Sindh and federal, not just the plight of Karachiites.

Eventually Karachi will need better and more local representation. London where I am is a big city, we have our own mayor, our own assembly, our own taxes and our own projects and authorities.

PPP worked hard to get decentralised power in 2010 through constitutional amendments, that was a good step forward imo. However, IF their intentions are still true and they need to apply that logic forward, the same centralisation that they thought would benefit Sindh will also benefit Karachi when power is further devolved. Their opposition to such moves is then against their own ideology and is purely motivated by their own political objectives, not what’s good for Pakistan or good for Karachi.
