Row over govt's plan to build 'composite townships' for Kashmiri pandits
NEW DELHI: A row has erupted over government's plan to create "composite townships" for displaced Kashmiri pandits in Kashmir valley.

Government's move has been met with strong opposition from several parties and separatists in the state.

While National Conference said the move will be dangerous for integrity of state and country, separatist leader Yasin Malik said a separate colony on the basis of religion will only build walls of hate, like in Israel.

J&K chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed during his meeting with Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday had assured that the state government will acquire and provide land at the earliest for composite townships for displaced Kashmiri pandit migrants in the valley.

National Conference leader Ali Mohd Sagar slammed the state government for the move calling it 'dangerous for the country'.

"People in India talk of composite culture; composite culture means that people with different faiths can live together," Yasin Malik said threatening to launch an agitation against the government's proposed move.

"Thousands of Kashmiri Pandits live happily here. What fire are the CM and the RSS are playing with by saying they will build separate colony for Kashmiri pandits," Yasin Malik asked.

However, PDP leader Naeem Akhtar defended the plan and said, "Government is bound to bring back Kashmiri pandits who are a part of our life with honour and dignity."

At present, there are about 62,000 registered Kashmiri migrant families in the country, who have moved from the valley to Jammu, Delhi and other parts of the country after the state was rocked by militancy in 1989.

People were sceptical about BJP-PDP alliance, now you know why the Alliance was formed, to silence the Separatists and bring home the Kashmiri Pandits. Those colonies will have Army Protection.
At last BJP is going to Rehabilitate Hindus in Kashmir.

Too little ,too late.A whole generation has grown up living outside Kashmir.

Oh really

Last time that moron Yasin Malik told us that he is not an Indian.
Kashmiri Pandits are also son of that soil. Now I can understand the patience of Modi and BJP when that CM did some reckless move .
I hopes Kashmiri Pandits will rehabiliated soon

they are not opposing rehabilitation, they are opposing segregation. (hindu only colony)

.
To hell with Yasin Malik and the Sunni Muslims of Kashmir Valley.

Resettle the KPs and bar the sunni muslims from settling down there.

If Mufti opposes, put president's rule and throw that b@$t@rd in a dungeon with his brood and his ilk.

If worse happens, declare martial law in Kashmir and deal with 'threat perceptions' the way Mizo separatists were dealt with in 1967.

they are not opposing rehabilitation, they are opposing segregation. (hindu only colony)

Bit rich coming from terrorist scum who massacred Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs in the valley to make 'muslim Kashmir' and then separate it from India.

I support this segregation from those violent haters.

Reason is simple .Those Pandits dont trust their neighbours not any more .They will have special privileges of government and Army.Sunni kashmiris already proved that they cant see their fellow minorities as their brothers .Then so be it.

.
@Joe Shearer, what's your opinion on this.

  1. Too little too late.
  2. Why isolated blocs of the religiously similar? Why build ghettos or armed kibbutzes?
  3. Is there any long-term security guarantee? What if the next elected government is different, stops defending these enclaves, and withdraws security support?
  4. Who is it for? Most of the KPs won't come back to this for any price.

is this even a solution.. this will only stick like a sore thumb... and object of hatred ..?
i have sympathy for pandits but they have allowed themselves to be abused by right wing hindus, just like muslims were made a votebank.

Then whats the solution? What should be done for those ppl who want to return but cannot due to fear of violent repercussions? Those who don't want to return can be settled elsewhere but what about those who want, they will be butchered if they are not protected.

That's funny. Did you see anyone else supporting them?

You are absolutely correct in all the points but what is the alternative? As @gslv pointed out, those who want to return must be protected by the state. I see no answers.

They will be Rehabilitated with Army protection and perhaps that colony will be given license to bear firearms.
People were screaming before BJP didn't deliver its promise of Rehabilitating KP's and allying with PDP.Now we know why they allied and are doing the work slowly,Alliance with PDP has effectively silenced all Separatists voices.

they are not opposing rehabilitation, they are opposing segregation. (hindu only colony)
They were driven out of Valley to make it MUSLIM ONLY, now they complain about Hindu only colony? What a joke.
Segregation my foot.

If it sticks out let it be,Abused by Right wing hindus? No previous Government cared about KP's, Hindus in valley for 26 years. and now you whine about abuse ,when a government is ready to rehabilitate them in their homeland?

.
Well what that scum is saying is right. We should not help promote religious segregation.

.
Well, actually Hindus did live in what can now be called ghettos. Amira and Habba Kadal. Religious segregation was imposed by the Muslims first and then encouraged by the short Dogra rule. It is a known fact that the Sunnis in Kashmir will prefer perpetual stone throwing to living with a non Muslim unarmed neighbor. This is more true for porshayr.
The basics need to change. RSS is working there in full force. Two generations and the results will show.
