I heard people in Iran are not allowed by Govt. to name their kids like Omar/Osman/Abubakar/Ayesha?
I also heard Iranian govt give a booklet of couple of hundreds names to pick a name from and even ancient persian kings like cyrus name are not allowed?
Is any of that true?

I heard about that too that uptil few hundred years ago Iran was Sunni majority country and then their king became Shia and forced entire nation to be Shia. lol
But hey, what is it to me, I am happy to be Agnostic

Sunnis are allowed to name children those names but Shias aren't allowed. 99.9% of Shias doesn't want to name their children those names. So automatically there is freedom for both Shias and Sunnis. People are allowed to name their children any Persian word including ancient Iranian empetors & kings. There is no limit about it.

I deeply respect these kind of sentiments. Ayatollah Khomeini and Pres Mahmoud Ahmedi Nejad regularly gave such statements in support of Shia-Sunni unity.

It is regretful that the Arab world has erupted into fractionalization and toxic sectarianism. Can’t say I am surprised though due to the takfiri and violent hate emanating from that region.

I am just glad that countries like Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, the CARs have stayed united regardless of sectarian ideation.
