It's been 32 years since the revolution. Why not US destroy Iran in all those years instead of destroying whatever Iraqis worked on for all those years under Saddam? Or they couldn't stomach the consequences? Shia-Sunni tensions are high in the region.
I understand your concern, but the issue of Islamic extremism today is deep-rooted. There is no quick-fix to the matter no matter how many wars fronts the USA open up. And then, there is also the issue of Shia-Sunni tensions. Imagine what would happen if Iran was attacked.
Certainly, weak countries like Iraq and Afghanistan was and still is no walk in the park , and those certainly did not stop the process of Islamic extremism.
Not being anti-American here, but stating that opening up new war fronts will not solve much in the long term, other than accomplishing some short-term objectives as far as Islamic extremism is concerned. But then, there is the strong potential of other extremist elements as well.
Also, war is bad for economy.
but the redneck tea baggers president doesn't call for the death of all non believers, neither funds terror outfits to carry out rocket attacks on innocent jews, nor calls for death to any country and doesn't claim jews eat blood of arab kids... lastly doesn't pray for destruction of all jewish people in Israel....right???

OT.. the only reason US flags burnt is because it's the only power to stand up against tyranny (most of the times)
