Recognize Chinese Civilizational Superpower: US scholar

In some sense, I agree with you...LoL.
But note there are a looooot of Chinese people. Most of them are hardworking and rational. Some of them...Well, enjoy bluffing real/unreal achievements which has little relationship to them in internet. It'd be crazy to judge China by reading these crazy posts...

Noted. :enjoy:

I figured as much but since it seems i ran into the more irrational ones i thought i'd give it a go :partay:

That's right, US also has many hiding budget. For example, her space program simply doesn't count as the fund for the military expenditure.

However, the official figure of the military budget is just some playing number for the political purpose, who has more money, so who will spend more, it is logical.

Just because China consider's its space program for violent (i.e. military) purposes doesn't mean other countries do. NASA is for the exploration of space, the advancement of humanity, and innovation that effects all parts of our lives.

Don't believe its about exploration? Our probes have reached to the edge of the solar system and beyond, there is your proof.

Our rovers are still present on mars, with more to come.

Our entrepreneurs make leaps and bounds when it comes to bringing down the cost of manned space travel, to their own profit, but more to their own posterity.

Our businessmen will handle the now routine task of taking men to orbit, our government will focus on taking men beyond.

Even Chinese tourists will have a chance to go to orbit should they be willing to pay for a ride.

There is of course an element which considers the military dimension for space, and that is the USAF. NASA is purely civilian led and works toward the mentioned goals of exploration and innovation. There has been technological spinoffs that have benefitted the military, but it does not work for the military, and does not consider the military implications of space.

The last five centuries - the 20th century especially - have been exceptional. The normal state of affairs is that China is the dominant world economic power, sucking capital into its maw in exchange for goods.

On the other hand, China has often failed to be the dominant world political power due to civil strife from within or foreign invasion from without. Reaching for "superpower" status was itself a cause of the "warlordism" that eventually weakened the country. Like the fox who not being able to reach the grapes decides they must not be good anyway, China decided centuries ago to withdraw into itself to minimize the prospects of civil unrest.

What does China's future hold? Beats me, but every twenty years or so China will look completely different.

Agreed the last five centuries have been exceptional compared to the past, but an Asia that is not geopolitically dominated by China is also the new norm geopolitically.

Chinese hope for a return to the days when its tributary system served as its foreign policy and its primacy in Asia was unquestioned.

Those days are gone, they were destroyed with the rise of Europe and they vanished off the geopolitical board altogether with the expansion of the United States to the West Coast.

The Chinese must learn to accept this and work within the system, because things won't return to the system of ages past. The countries of Asia have other options.

LOL China is the second biggest civilian shipbuilder in the world and second biggest military shipbuilder in the world. Our space technology is second in the world as well -- we have our own GPS and manned space station. Yuan will be freely convertible within 5 years, and the petro US dollar is going to crash and burn.

the day ur naval warship patrol the back yard of USA .. ur country will be a true numero uno superpower. till then keep quiet. ;)
