Mumbai: Kalyan youth Arif Majeed’s return from ISIS zone in Iraq was not of his own decision or will, but it was a well planned operation by the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), FPJ has learnt from highly placed sources in a Central intelligence agency.
As against reports that Majeed was upset, as he was given menial jobs that led to his return, sources said that RAW used one of its agent in Turkey to get him back. The agent posed as a businessman pledging support for ISIS and approached Majeed for an important ‘mission’ in India.
“The businessman convinced Majeed to return to India to complete the ‘task’ and assured him of logistical support,” said a source in the agency. Feeling happy of being part of the ‘task’, Majeed agreed to return.
As per the plan that was carved out to trap Majeed, he was made to destroy his passport and approach the Indian embassy in Iraq to seek help to return. “Majeed told the embassy officials that he had got trapped in the war zone and wanted to return to India,” the source said adding Majeed thought he was already into the operation whereas the embassy officials were aware of the whole plot.
Sources said that Majeed was also made to speak to his parents on phone, so that he is convinced that he is able to deceive the embassy officials.
Majeed’s return was aided and he arrived in Mumbai with two officials of Intelligence Bureau (IB). “It was only when Majeed boarded the plane in Turkey that he realised two persons sitting on his either side were intelligence officials. “By the time he realised the actual plan in the flight, it was too late for him,” the source said.
Sources said though he was upset with not being allowed to fight in the combat zone, Majeed was still not willing to come back. “Neither his three friends, who are also from Kalyan, are willing to come back,” the source said. He added that intelligence agencies are aware about the location of these three youths and are making attempts to bring them back.
“They know about Majeed’s arrest here and are hence skeptical about returning,” the source said.
