Rattled by China warning, General Rawat walks back previous boasting

A week after India and China ended their worst military confrontation in decades, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has said that the possibility of a two-front war against China on the North and Pakistan to the West cannot be ruled out.

"As far as the Northern adversary is concerned, flexing of muscles has started. Salami slicing, taking over territory in a very gradual manner, testing our limits or threshold is something we have to be wary about. Remain prepared for situations that are emerging gradually into conflict," he said about China.

He warned that a war with China could easily end up involving its long-term ally, Pakistan. "Whether these conflicts will be limited and confined in space and time, or whether these can expand into an all-out war along the entire front with the Western adversary (Pakistan) taking advantage of the situation developing on the Northern border is very much likely."

Reacting to the comments, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a briefing that, “We have noted the statement by relevant people in India, also we noticed some Indian press remarked that the reports are shocking.”

Referring to the remarks expressed by Xi and Modi during their first meeting following the end of a 73-day standoff between the militaries of the two countries at Dokalam, Geng also questioned whether Rawat was authorised to speak and if his comments represented the Indian government’s position.

“As reported by Indian press...we don’t know whether he was authorised to speak those words or it was just his spontaneous words or whether his words represented the position of the Indian government,” Geng said.

Army chief General Bipin Rawat on Saturday said neither China nor Pakistan is an imminent threat to the country in a departure from his earlier statement wherein he had dubbed the two neighbours India’s northern and western adversaries respectively and that the country needed to be prepared for a two-front war.

“None of the country (China or Pakistan) is a threat,” he said on the sidelines of an event in Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun on Saturday noon in response to a query.

“What I had said... said,” he went on to add when reminded of his previous remarks made a little over a week after India and China ended one of their worst military face-offs at Doklam at the India-Bhutan-China tri-junction.

China had reacted to Rawat’s earlier remark, saying ties between the two countries should not be derailed.

So first an a$$ kicking in Ladakh. Then a humiliating unilateral retreat. Now IA is so afraid of China even just a warning made General Rawat meek and docile.
COVERUP after humiliation in doklam

China lost in dokhlam issue and thats the reality check and slap Pakistan in BRICS.

Is that why General Rawat did a humiliating climb down from his previous boasting after a warning from China?

Continue the Show Chick

He talks much but doesnt have military numbers to back it up.

In any war, he will become a POW.

One slight push from china, north east india gone.

Another slight push from china and pakistan, delhi captured.

Ya keep spewing your cow manure.

Military men do no engage in diplomatic rhetoric- thats the job of the ppl in skirts at the FM.

An Army/Navy/Air force chief is to push forward his armed service's policies using hawkish language. He did what he was entrusted by the nation to do- advocate the motherland's interests by all military methods.

The funny thing is he did a 180degrees U-turn n ate his words.

Unless u r telling me Indian army is just like how the rest of the nation is- all talk, no action.

Hahahahaha.

So it's apparent he froze in fear upon hearing if the Chinese FM's statements n retracted his boasts.

Hahahahahaha.

I guess this Indian Army chief is wearing a skirt like the folks at the FM now? Seems like he's made himself the butt of jokes- both domestically n internationally.

Hahahahaha.
Lol, this is funny, he retracted his word because 'someone' is forcing him to do it. Guess who?
