Raheel Sharif put three conditions before Saudi Arabia

If Iraq and Syria and Yemen would have been a country, there would have been no need for this alliance. Who will give money and military support on the behalf of Iraq ? US or Iran ? And who will give that from Syrian side ? Russia ?

Iran will not join the force itself. Still the alliance will become reality and GRS will command it.

Anyone who questions Iran is not sectarian. Enough of this card. Why should Iran has its influence on Arab world ? they are Persian. Arab and Persia have been enemies of each other throughout the history. After US invasion of Iraq, Iran has got an opportunity to materialize her dreams in the Arab world through her sectarian mercenaries. Arabs have a right to defend themselves against Persian anarchist.

I'm not playing "that card." I'm Sunni myself, but I don't let that taint my vision of what's good (or bad) for the Middle East.

I don't have much to say to people who think that Saudi Arabia is a good choice to fund/headquarter the counter-terrorist (essentially a counter-extremism) battle. You do know that it is the House of Saud that funded the spread of the relatively fringe concept of Takfeer (in the 1990s), under Wahabbism, that forms the fundamental and ideological basis of all terrorists that are giving Pakistan a hard time these days (TTP, LeJ, ISIS, Al Qaeda, etc.)? Saudi Arabia is also strangely close to Israel. The problem with the House of Saud is that since they have no concept of any democratic tradition anywhere (something Islam demands even under Sharia), they are sh*t scared of any challenge to their grip on power... and to counter it, they are willing to fund the likes of ISIS and Al-Nusra and cooperate with Israel. That is shameful. It's pathetic. Iran, say what you will, is a better choice than ISIS or Israel.

Iran is no angel. Iran supports violent proxies too.

Let us hope our General has some honor and chooses to commit his time, 100%, to serving Pakistan by teaching in universities, consulting for local think tanks and actively aiding veteran affairs. Even Gen Pasha went off to the UAE --- unprecedented and shameful for an ex spymaster.

If you are against General Shareef joining this so-called military alliance, you are not automatically some kind of self-hating Pakistani or anti-Army person. In fact, it is precisely the fact that I am a patriot, care about Pakistan's future and want to continue respecting the Army that I feel he should refrain.

ISLAMABAD: A Defence Analyst General (retired) Amjad Shoaib on Monday claimed that former army chief General (retired) Raheel Sharif put three conditions before Saudi Arabia for heading the 39-nation Islamic military alliance.

Speaking exclusively to ARY News, Amjad Shoaib claimed that the three conditions Raheel Sharif put before the Saudi authorities were:

  1. He will not work under anyone else’s leadership

  2. Iran should be included in the military alliance

  3. He will play the role of a mediator to resolve differences between Muslim countries.
It is pertinent to note here that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Friday claimed that the former army chief was made chief of 39-nation Islamic military coalition formed to combat terrorism.

The headquarters of the Saudi-led coalition would be based in Riyadh, the capital and most populous city of Saudi Arabia.

General Raheel Sharif, who started and led Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the country, retired from his post on November 29, 2016, and handed over the command of Pakistan army to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

If true, that I am not seeing him at the helm of affairs.

How does this square with dossier-gate don Sartaj Aziz statement that Raheel Sherief was never offered this job in the first place?

The matter is still unclear, since defence minister has also said that RS has not requested NOC from gov. So it might be that there was negotiations, but they had not been fruitful yet, but i am also guessing......
