Which is actually great as a concept but for 60 units seems like a poor investment unless it has common architecture/components with whatever follows the LCA mk2

TEDBF will have common platform with ORCA. But instead of LCA situation,where naval LCA was derrived from the Air force version, this will be the other way around where the Airforce version ORCA would be derrived from the Naval TEDBF. HAL learnt it the hard way on navy LCA.

Nope, the aim is to be close to rafale. Not a 5th gen, that is AMCA, but technologies would need more time to mature. TEDBF and ORCA are more pragmatic solutions with technologies that are realistically achievable through the LCA program.

Doesn't make sense when already working on 2 engine fifth generation amca
Why waste money on another delta wing fourth generation 2 engine jet

This tedbf would eat up resources that could have been used in amca program

India should have gone South Korea kfx way Initially make less stealthy blocks of amca for the roles they are making sperate tedf orca

learn from it and make more stealthier blocks latter

Instead of dumb wishing to make a f22 from start

Tedbf and amca from pics look completely different designs so would share very few parts thus economy of scales won't benefit in production costs

No need to make the fat amy of the F-35 but unless there is another wish to have availability at 45% for assets it makes sense to get commonality

Too many types of platforms.
Time for the Services to talk to each other and work for common platforms. Not more than 2-3 type of platforms should be able to meet the entire gamut of operations for IN as well as the IAF. Both the Services would gain from bigger and common logistics and infrastructure.

But bigger egos and I am bigger than you attitude seems to be in play. Imagine what kind of jointness they can achieve in operations, if they can’t even talk to each other on acquisition front?

They have proven to be less than optimal for carrier operations. They are very potent in their intended role, but their airframes simply cannot take the stress of repeated hard landings on the carrier. So their useful lives are expected to be less than originally advertised and expected. Hence the hurry for a replacement.

The Indian Navy does NOT have cash to waste, or even for what they need. A cursory look at their budget allocations will tell you so.

Aye? That makes sense in that case. But it seems like too many options on the table makes you folks suffer from indecision and too many requirements piled into a single platform acquisition.

The beauty of being cash strapped and also barred from certain tech like us is that we have no choice but to go for a given platform, and then we see it through by sheer necessity, and a mix of ingenuity and jugaadh.

Too many options is just one aspect.
Indian bureaucracy combined by poor military planning have played an equal part in the mess we are in. DRDO and it’s likes are another mess makers.
Just look at the number of AWACS IAF has vs the PAF. Considering the size of airspace this side, there should have been bigger numbers. Didn’t planners know this? But……..

All these entities seem to be getting their act together. But still far from it. Multiple platforms and inter-service fights don’t see to have gone away yet.
