Five suicide bombers were killed while four Frontier Corps (FC) personnel sustained wounds in an abortive attack on FC Madadgar Centre in Quetta on Thursday evening.

“Security forces failed terrorist attempt to attack FC Help Centre Quetta,” said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement.

“An explosive and ammunition laden vehicle with 5 SBs [suicide bombers] tried to enter help centre,” the military’s media wing added. “Vigilant FC soldiers fired at terrorists and stopped their entry. All terrorists killed.” It added that “all SBs [were] apparently Afghani.”

“Security forces clearing the area,” the ISPR said. “Situation under control. In exchange of fire 4 FC soldiers injured.”

“After the exchange of firing is controlled by the security forces the area is cordoned off and the BD [bomb disposal] Team is advancing in the site of terrorist attack to conduct neutralising and search & sweep operation as per SOPs.”

It further said that failed terrorists attempt was [a] response to killing of their key terrorists last night in Kili Almas.

Earlier on Thursday, security forces killed the Balochistan chief of proscribed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi during an intelligence-based operation in the Killi Almas area of the provincial capital.

A Pakistan Army officer, Colonel Sohail Abid, was martyred during the operation and four other soldiers were injured during the security operation.

The operation was conducted on intelligence obtained from a high-value terrorist arrested earlier by security forces. Intelligence pointed to the presence of the LeJ chief and presence of suicide bombers at the terrorist hideout.
