Qatar is not allowed to buy F-35 because they don't recognize Israel.

If I was a cynic, I would say this is a very clever move by Qatar. They already have F-15Q, Typhoon and Rafale on order, they are not inclined to fight Iran. By asking for this and knowing they will be refused they are actually making it more difficult for the US to sell it to UAE. If US goes ahead and sells it to UAE and nit Qatar this will be very damaging. Very clever move....

I am not saying the sale will not go ahead, read my post again, but by rejecting a Qatari request US will be forced to snub an ally, which, by default, makes a UAE sale more problamatic, something the Qataris would be happy about.....

Put it another way. If Pakistan were to request, say THAAD from US in return for final Afghan peace deal, chances are they would be refused, but than they would ask for something less as compensation. This Qatari request was never really about actually getting F-35s, the Qataris will have major headache right now inducting the 100 odd Typhoons, F-15s and Rafales they have coming.
