I've not suggested that we keep it in public ownership, I said alternatives, I meant private alternatives.
What's wrong with deals like these is often the case observed everywhere, the deals are done behind closed curtains, the public has no say in them, the prices are determined often by the financial interests of each player, including corruption and bribery, often public assets are sold off too cheaply, and deals constructed that take any regulatory authority away.

Remember, anyone who buys the PIA will have the entire market hostage in Pakistan, you'd better pray that whoever was selling it at this time did a good job protecting Pakistani consumers.

i agree with you brother as much as i hate pia and want to see it gone.i also advocate that there should be clarity, openness and proper accountability in selling process and deal should be done around the market value of the company. i don't care how buys it but i do care at which price they are buying it.
as for Pakistani market monopoly don't you think air blue and saheen airways will give it tough time in local market while in international market there a other giant sharks ready to snatch away its customer if there remains any.

Well no harm to sell the Airlines to Qater , or any investor provided 5-6 Billion is given to Pakistan

a) Taxes are paid in Pakistan for the company i.e it is registered in Pakistan and is obliged to pay taxes locally
b) Employs PIA workers / engineers age group 20-38 years old.
c) Employee taxes are deducted before salaries are paid and submitted to government

Has policy of buying new planes from Boeing / Airbus , (Dreamliner/Airbus) etc

Problem is simple :

• Each Year PIA EATS 700 Million to 1 Bilion due to bad management due to high employee ratio

If someone has 7-12 Billion lying in closet , pay the money and buy PIA and run it as you wish

• Qatar Airways ? Sure , as long as you pay taxes locally , and deduct employee taxes locally
  
• Any Pakistani Investor ? Sure as long as you pay 5 Billion and as long as you pay taxes locally , and deduct employee taxes locally

Has anyone done Audit on the Assets PIA owns , it must be worth at least 7-12 Billion

• Considering Planes PIA own (38 Owned , 7 ordered)

• Software licenses for aviation
• Land owned by PIA (Prime land)

• All the buses/ airport related vans and loaders etc are extra cost

If 25 Billion is cost of 118 planes , then

• 8 Billion is cost of just the planes (38) PIA has , since they have 7 more planes on order I would imagine the cost would be any where 8-10 Billion USD for just the planes

If PIA management was smart they would have taken loan from bank putting all planes on collateral taking 5 Billion dollars to fix company by their own ability and by giving notice to employees that this is the final attempt

It seems PIA is being sold out full, it would have been better if at first 49% of stake was sold and 51% was retained by the government.

Will Pakistan Airways replace Pakistan International Airlines?

KARACHI, Pakistan - In an apparent bid to take Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) out from the list of national assets, THE operational name of PIA has been changed to Pakistan Airways.

PIA had earlier been transformed as a Limited Company instead of a Corporation.

According to an official statement issued by the PIA authorities on Saturday, a subsidiary of the airlines has been registered with the title of Pakistan Airways (PA).

Spokesman of PIA, Danyal Gillani, in a statement said, “Referenc[ing] media queries, please note that Pakistan Airways has been registered as a premium service subsidiary of PIA. This would help improve the service standard and image of the national airline.”

However, his statement did not explain with what name aircrafts of the national carrier will fly. Will it be PIA flights with a PIA logo or will PA now fly in the skies?

The PIA trade union claims that Pakistan has already sold out PIA to Qatar Airways, while the government of Pakistan denies such claims. This new development has again highlighted controversies shrouding PIA.

Our govt is only lacking the will-power. Personal businesses of these politicians are flourishing whereas national institutions are being privatized. This is the height of insanity. PM made a "privatization board" instead of a "rehabilitation board" which shows the true intentions of this govt.

But for that you sell to a company that is based outside of Pakistan, where the profits go, where it can evade the due taxes it has coming to it, and is not entirely liable to comply to the state or the people of Pakistan in some cases.

This is one of those moments, one has to decide on which trade-off we want to go with, and if any alternatives are available.

The govt has shown great ineptness and disappointing attitude in solving the crisis of the national airway and frankly with their ineptness I have also come to the conclusion that privatization is the only way but the govt must make sure to keep some semblance of control otherwise PIA will be lost. Ptcl was privatized partially and it became amazing and improved leaps and bounds so perhaps the same model should be used here to make sure that Pakistan also get the maximum benefit from privatization.. Qatar airways is perhaps amongst the best airways in the world.
