Accuracy of laser guided bomb depends on how accurately the pilot puts the laser on the target. The plane is moving all the time. It's not an easy task.

All sights are stabilized + there is auto tracking mode. U put mark and thats it. Accuracy less than 1 m.

And exposes the pilot to enemy fire.

Its opposite. SVP-24 has zero release enveloped while modern laser bombs have very wide release envelope.

SVP-24 makes a plane into a cruise missile except the terminal stage when the autopilot launches a bomb instead of crashing the plane into the target like a cruise missile's autopilot does.

I think we are talking past each other. You say bomb sight. I say cruise missile. You know cruise missile? That's what SVP-24 is. SVP-24 turns plane into cruise missile. You know. Flies into target. Except at the very last second the autopilot releases the bomb and flies to the next destination. The bomb follows the ballistic trajectory and hits the target after a 1 second flight. Cheap and effective.

The bomb flies 1 second before impact. That's roughly the time it takes an M1 Abrams tank shell to reach the target after being fired. M1 Abrams tank shell has 99% probability of hitting a tank size target, so what makes you think SVP-24 bomb release won't hit a building after a 1 second flight? Bomb has way bigger momentum than tank shell. Even if it's windy, SVP-24 takes into account of air data such as wind speed and wind direction, which hardly change during a 1 second duration. Have you seen wind speed and wind direction change within 1 second? Cause I haven't. That's what M1 Abrams tank crosswind sensor and plane air data sensors do. They measure wind speed and direction and computes firing solution to ensure the tank round / bomb hits the target taking into account of wind speed and wind direction within a 1 second tank round / bomb flight time.

SVP-24 is more accurate than M1 Abrams tank round due to bomb having much bigger momentum than tank round so if, and that's a BIG if, wind speed and wind direction do change within 1 second of the bomb flight time, it's much harder for wind to move a bomb which has great momentum than it is for wind to move a tank round which has a small fraction of a bomb's momentum.

this might be one of the rare occasions where undertaker is actually right!

the svp-24 has nothing to do with the system the US used in the 70s. its direct, and much cheaper alternative to the US JDAM..

what the US did was take every single dumb bomb they had, and added a 250k kit to it to make it "smart". While this is excellent news for weapons manufacturers. its bad news for the taxpayer.

the Russians not needing to answer to a for profit military industrial complex came up with a much cheaper solution. and created the svp-24 for the plane. whereby it could guided dumb bombs to their location.

while the US JDAM is a little more accurate, the SVP-24 is aloooooootttt more cost efficient and an overall more viable system.

Go read up on GPS, cruise missile. SVP-24 is autopilot controller, like in a cruise missile. When GPS became available in the 90s, cruise missiles began using GPS for guidance. That's what SVP-24 is. Autopilot controller linked to GPS. SVP-24 guidance the autopilot to fly towards the target in the optimum path. Planes equipped with SVP-24 fly like cruise missiles without humans flying them.
