Russia and Turkey announced a wide-ranging agreement that would establish joint Russian and Turkish patrols along much of the Turkish and Syrian border within six days.

The agreement also demands that the Syrian Kurds withdraw their fighters and weapons nearly 20 miles away.

The agreement says Russian military police and Syrian border guards will enter the Syrian side of the Syrian-Turkish border from noon Wednesday and, over the next 150 hours, remove the YPG and their weapons, back to 18 miles from the border.

The Russian military police and Turkish military will begin patrols at 6 p.m. next Tuesday, along that line. Qamishli will not be included in the six-mile zone, and it was not clear if the agreement meant the entire Turkey-Syrian border, or just the area where the Syrian Kurds exercised control.

Turkey will keep control of the areas it has taken in their military offensive — between the towns of Tal Abyad and Ras Al Ain.

The agreement also asked the YPG or Syrian Kurds/Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to make concession outside of the current area of conflict. In the agreement, the YPG are meant to withdraw from the towns of Manbij and Tal Rifaat.

It remained unclear whether the SDF would agree to this widespread withdrawal or whether it would encompass the Syrian Kurdish population center of Kobani. Russian and regime forces have already entered the city after a Syria Kurdish invitation.

Thats what Turkey proposed to the US for years but they were doing nothing more than just to win time with nice words until Turkey eventually ran out of patience.

Well ask 2011 Erdogan why he had to screw up by supporting the FSA rebels instead of the Syrian Govt in Damascus

Are you kidding? Supporting Asad never was and never will option for us. What ever we did, what ever will do against him and his followers/supporters.

Something, something chemical weapons. My point was a Government won't target neighbouring country, but terrorists will.

in 2010 ERDOGAN warned the Syrian Govt 11 times as friendly for democratic reforms in Syria
but Assad Regime , Iran and Iran backed terrorist groups have started killing unarmed Syrian People to protect dictatorial regime

so ex- Syrian Army soldiers created FSA to protect Syrian People being slaughtered by Assad Regime , Iran and Iran backed terrorist groups

then Turkey has started supporting Syrian People against criminal dictator Assad Regime , Iran and Iran backed terrorist groups

We get it that Turkey was wronged by Assad in the past, but there are worse 'enemies' than China and Syria for Turkey. The fact that Turkey can work with Russia shows progress to isolate the worst and most criminal regime in the world, by world consensus.

What do Germans, Russians, Greeks and Turks agree on. :enjoy:

What is great about the Turks is if Assad fell, Turkey was there to pick up the pieces so Syria would be in Turkey's camp. Erdogan did a great job in this role, but Assad won, so give the whole of Syria to the Damascus government, represented in the UN, IIRC.
