KCR was not initiated by Government but was initiated on the order of Supreme Court .... aur jo 1,100 billion ka package hai us main se 450 billion Bharia Town ne dey na hai as a plenty .... that too if I am not mistaken in 6 or 10 years ... which mean nothing will happen as first the fund will go to Supreme Court then to Federal Government then to Sindh Government ....

Federal government of PTI can announce a new city on Bundle Island but could not install a seawater desalination plant at least for population residing near sea areas .... ???

Priorities kya hai PTI government ki .... NO SINGLE PERSON in PTI could reverse this trend unless IK himself interfere in Karachi politics ....

There are ways with which PTI could remain majority party of Karachi for decades to come but no PTI is too shy to confront PPP in Sindh ....

ECP accepts Miftah Ismail's application for recount in NA-249 Karachi by-poll

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday accepted PML-N leader Miftah Ismail's application for a recount in the NA-249 Karachi by-election and fixed the hearing for May 4 (Tuesday).

The ECP order, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, said that the by-election for NA-249 had been held on April 29 and the provisional result was announced the next day by the returning officer (RO).

It noted that Ismail — the PML-N candidate — had submitted an application that same day the provisional results were announced for a recount which was subsequently dismissed by the RO on May 1.

Ismail has now "submitted an application under Section 95(6) of the Elections Act, 2017 before the commission wherein he has requested for a complete recount of the entire constituency," stated the ECP order.

"The petitioner has further pointed out that there is a difference in the total votes recorded in Form-45 and Form-47.

"The petitioner has also submitted an application for the forensic audit of Form-45 with WhatsApp/RTS on April 30," said the order. It further noted that consolidation of the result had not yet been completed.

"The margin of victory is less than five per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency or 10,000 votes whichever is less in accordance with the provisions of Section 95 (5) of the (Elections) Act, the Commission is satisfied that prima facie case exists for intervention, and therefore stay the consolidation process," the order said.

Fawad calls for re-election
Meanwhile, federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has called for a re-election in the constituency.

According to Radio Pakistan, the minister said that the turnout in the by-election had been low and only 21 per cent of registered voters had cast their votes.

Chaudhry added that the winning candidate securing less than 5pc of the total registered votes was not a "true reflection of democratic norm".

Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said, was the only leader who had repeatedly stressed the need to reach a consensus on electoral reforms and invited political parties to discuss the issue. He said that if the opposition was not ready for electoral forms then it shouldn't make a "hue and cry".

Earlier in the day, the premier had reiterated the government's offer and invited the opposition for talks on electoral reforms.

He said that technology and the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) was the only answer to reclaim the credibility of elections and invited the opposition to come and select from the EVM models currently available.

Parties cry foul

PPP's Qadir Khan Mandokhail had won the NA-249 by-election in Karachi by a small margin after securing 16,156 votes, according to the provisional results released on Friday while Ismail had come in second with 15,473 votes.

The PML-N and the PTI had cried foul and subsequently rejected the results.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz had claimed that the election was stolen by "only a few hundred votes". "The election commission must withhold the results of one of the most disputed and controversial elections. Even if it doesn’t, this victory will be temporary and will come back to the PML-N soon."

this has been my principal argument from beginning... infact PTI has closed down already functioning bodies and we all know about their over all mismanagements.

I have concluded.. that PTI is simply an extension of PPP.
Zardari and Imran are governed by common foreign source, hence they compliment each other. Imran Khan and party evade investigation by having Bajwa on constantly on state payroll. You scratch my back and i scratch yours.

BTW, gund started to appear from 90's before that all was good. Predecessors build all the Pakistan we see today from scratch.

In NA 249 bye election, despite a low turnout, all parties are crying foul & claiming rigging. Same happened in Daska recently & in Senate elections. In fact, apart from 1970 election, in every election claims of rigging have raised doubts over credibility of election results.


In 2013 there were 133 NA constituencies' disputes before elec tribunals. We asked for examination of just 4 constituencies' votes & in all 4 rigging was established. But it took us a yr & a 126-days dharna to get a Judicial Comm which found over 40 faults in conduct of elections



Unfortunately no substantive reforms were put in place. Technology & use of Electronic Voting Machines are the only answer to reclaim credibility of elections. I invite the Opposition to sit with us & select from EVM models we have available to restore our elections credibility.



Trump's team did everything to dispute 2020 presidential election result; but bec technology used in electoral process not one irregularity was found. For a year now we have been asking the Opposition to cooperate with us & help reform our present electoral system.



Our govt is determined & we will put in place reforms in our electoral system through the use of technology to bring transparency & credibility to our elections & strengthen our democracy.

Bro that example was given in context of Bundel Island project I was not proposing one project as alternative of the other ....

Bundel Island is the area where PTI was (or still) seeking to build project of a new city but those who already live there or those who live at the beach of main land Karachi don't have drinking water facility .... so again the this type of projects obviously raise the question of seriousness and priorities of the government.

As far as K-IV is concern it will serve mainly new projects of Bharia and DHA and near by areas, although it would increase overall availability of water but this project is too late and would not be be a meaningful addition .....

K-IV was initiated in Prevez Mushraf tenure but is not completed yet and only God knows when will this project get completed .... so this project is suffering the same dilemma with which every project of Karachi face .... delay of at least 10-15 years

Now the sustainable source of water which could provide continues supply in addition to existing sources is Arabian Sea ... So multiple desalination plants for the present and future of Karachi is necessary.
