Was watching a documentary on the F-22 and it was mentioned that the most advanced supercomputer at the time was used to perform the computational analysis for the design of the plane body inorder to produce an aerodynamically efficient yet stealthy plane.


I do not know if there is even one supercomputer in Pak.

The article does mention that where there might be shortfalls domestically, the program will leverage external sources. That might include certain kinds of testing facilities.

Again, while the program will likely not be 100% indigenous, it is a major step forward. To use a common adage, 'don't let perfect get in the way of good'.

The Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) has outlined ambitious plans to support its development of a fifth-generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) - otherwise known in Pakistan as Project AZM.

The PAC enterprise, which is owned and run by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), has established a new office - the Aviation Research, Indigenization & Development (AvRID) unit - to lead the FGFA programme, it confirmed.

The development programme is supported through Pakistan's development of a new aerospace complex - named 'Aviation City' - that was launched in 2017 to support Project AZM and other national military aerospace requirements.

"The office of DG [Director General] AvRID has been established to transform into reality the [PAF's] air staff vision… with the long-term goal of developing our own fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA)," PAC said on its website.

"[The] development of [the] FGFA would be a major national programme that would entail a massive amount of work, not all of which may possibly be carried out within PAC or even within Pakistan.

"Such large-scale development requires synergetic efforts from a number of industrial (public and private) and academic organisations to fulfill the enormous task," it added.

In order to "manage an engineering development programme of this magnitude", effective technical, engineering, and project management processes need to be established, PAC said.

PAC also outlined several specialist project teams that it will establish in collaboration with other national agencies as part of the Aviation City initiative.

These include an engineering management and support office, an Aviation Design Institute, a Mission Electronics Design Institute, an Aero Structures Design Institute, an Advanced Technologies Centre, and a Flight Test Centre.

PAC states that AvRID will collaborate with and leverage the capabilities of these various Aviation City agencies in undertaking Project AZM. "This [will] put together components of industry and academia to build a high-end research centre to enhance indigenisation capability.

Mate just bcz something is not publicised doesnt mean we have none. You cant build a nuke without a supercomputer to perform simulations. NUST GIK and various other universities have built their own supercomputers for research purposes.

The idea of building JF THUNDER was once a long shot as well but we have it now. If there is will then there is a way.

Any aircraft project whether military or civil require certain number of units to be produced and then sold in order to make the program feasible . An indigenous Pakistani fighter project would require huge R&D plus other fixed costs but the number required by PAF may not be substantial to justify the cost of whole project and may result in astronomical per unit cost unless and until Pakistan must be assured of export orders along with their own requirement but which seems highly unlikely under current market situation of the military aviation where there will be many other FGFA project competing .

In my humble opinion most effective way for Pakistan is to enter into agreement with China to buy J-31s with condition that a big part of the planes ordered will be built within Pakistan . A made in Pakistan J-31 , tailor made to Pakistan needs will be most cost effective solution for our FGFA requirements !

Knowledge is power.
Even if PAC is unable to build an indigenous FGFA, the conducted research can be used in other military products i.e. drones.
