>> The most remarkable feature of these warships is that, tonne-for-tonne, they are not only one of the world's most heavily armed but also one of the cheapest. Three Project 15A destroyers were built even cheaper. P15B's are IN's first fully NBC optimized warships.
wow. building cost per tonne is even cheaper in India than in China?? Guess we should outsource our warship buildings to India instead of China. @english_man .
So, you have to bear the time it take to build a warship in India.
In western countries 2-3 years for a destroyer while in India 6-7 years.
No way..........7 years??
No way..........7 years??
Yup.
Current Kolkata class destroyer
INS Kolkata:
Keel laid on 2003, Launched: 2006, commissioned: 2014 that also with out Barak 8 SAM
INS Kochi:
Keel Laid: 2005, Launched: 2009, Commissioned: 2015
INS Chennai:
Keel Laid: 2006, Launched: 2010, Commissioned: 2016 (3rd quarter) expected.
Succeeding Vishakhapatnam Class:
INS Vishakhapatnam: Keel Laid: 2013, Launched: 2015, Commissioned: 2018(expected)
INS Porbandar: Keel Laid: 2015
Which country is producing 8,000+ destroyers in 2-3 years (24-36 months)? No where does this happen. So, you have to bear the time it take to build a warship in India.

Not just 7 but 10 years ............but those are due to supply chain not being into action and using traditional method not modular construction which is now being used .....So, you have to bear the time it take to build a warship in India.

Uncle Sam is constructing super carriers in 5 to 6 years.....Which country is producing 8,000+ destroyers in 2-3 years (24-36 months)? No where does this happen.
As you have pointed out each P-15B (Vishakhapatnam class) will be constructed within 60 months which is perfectly respectable for a ship of this size and complexity. Just like many projects, the first of its kind had troubles in India but lessons are learnt and applied to contract timelines the next time.

As @Abingdonboy said now we are trying to do it in 60 months/ 5 years that is half the time it earlier took ........for its size 60 months is right time
As more experience and newer methodology increased we able make ships quicker ...this is already been seen with smaller warship or OPVs where indigenous content is highWow...that was quite long. Good to know you are reducing the time needed to build them as time goes by.
