Pro-Taliban graffiti spurs violence in Karachi

KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies have imposed a virtual curfew in Sarjani Town after four persons were wounded in a crossfire between two groups after pro-Taliban slogans were found painted on the walls of a church on Wednesday.

At least two houses, over half a dozen shops, pushcarts and roadside stalls were set ablaze by unidentified men. Heavy contingents of police and Rangers were called to the scene, however, it took them several hours to ease the tense situation, while routine and commercial life in the area was suspended. Law enforcers carried out a door-to-door search operation to arrest the culprits, detaining at least seven persons from the area and seizing weapons.

However, police officials declined the presence of Taliban in the area and believed it to be a conspiracy by elements that wanted to disturb the peace of the city. The church, where slogans such as ‘Taliban zindabad’, ‘Islam zindabad’, ‘Christians Islam qabol karo’ were found painted on the walls, is located near Khuda Ki Basti, Taiser Town, within the jurisdiction of the Sarjani police station.

When the slogans were discovered, scores of Christians gathered on the road and staged a protest. Witnesses said while strongly criticising the Awami National Party (ANP), Pashtuns and the Taliban, the protesters chanted slogans such as ‘Taliban murdabad’, ‘ANP murdabad’ and ‘Pashtuns murdabad’. They burnt tyres and pelted stones at passing vehicles. During the riots, they also set ablaze over half a dozen shops, including pushcarts and roadside stalls owned by Pashtuns.

In retaliation, hundreds of Pashtuns also gathered at the scene and after exchanging hot words, the two groups resorted to firing. Consequently, three Christians and one person from the Pashtun group, sustained injuries and were shifted to a hospital.

The injured included Emran Masih, Qudoos Masih, Irfan Masih, and Rozi Khan.

Is somebody trying to exploit racial tensions in Karachi? If a pashtun versus non pashtun situation is created in Karachi, the Taliban will find it easier to try and make inroads into the city.

Personally, i wouldn't like more of these instances. I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, or are serious.

This was obviously done to create tensions in the area. For all we know, the Taliban are trying to fan the flames of ethnic tensions, like the AQ (or the Americans according to some) did in Iraq with the Shia and Sunni communities.

Not a good omen at all.

Were the tensions restricted to anger against the Taliban I would agree , but they are also acquiring an ethnic tint, which would actually play into the hands of the Taliban.

The LEA's and SF's need need to be focused on the extremist threat, not on putting out fires of ethnic hatred.

This will in fact be a slight tweak of the Al Qaeda MO of using chaos to create a power vacuum and stepping in - instead of sectarianism, it'll be ethnic hatred, or perhaps even both.

Lets not lose sight of reason in opposition to the extremists and play into their hands.

It was very dumb of pro-taliban loonies to do what they did especially in the largest city of Pakistan where diversity should be embraced. Also Pakistani Christians shouldn't have made those slurs against Pashtuns not all Pashtuns support Taliban.

I take the opposite view and while we cannot provide each other the kinds of bits of data which help us decide the merits of positions - allow me to say that I hope much blood shed accompanies the confrontation with the Talib.

Pakistanis, the ordinary variety, are clear why they are not Talib, why they cannot be Talib, but there also those who are waiting to see which way the wind blows - these are dangerous, and we must allow for conditions to focus their minds.

With the bloodletting, Pakistanis can learn yet another painful lesson (it has to be painful, it works for Pakistanis) about the virtues of religious extremism and in particular a lesson about the politicians and political parties that unleashed Talib upon Pakistan.

In Pakistan things are never played out from start to finish and if the Talib does not have a "finish", we will continue to have a problem with politcal parties making God and religion a political football and we will continue to suffer from Islamist terror.

You will note that Talib or provacateurs caused trouble in KHUDA KI BASTI --no accident. Maybe it will soon be Allah ki Basti?

Responsibilities

It is a full time multiple role responsibility, the successful candidates shall act as a Qazi/Justice during normal court hours and in after hours carry on flogging, beheadings and guerilla warfare duties as assigned by Ameerul Momeneen. They will report & assist Head Qazi to achieving the vision, mission, objectives & target set for punishments of poor helpless citizens by TNSM Shoora to create an environment of terror and fear. The successful candidates will order hanging of bodies with polls for any period as to their discretion, blowing up shrines, digging graves and punishing dead and alive without mercy. Sharia shall remain a major cover but any order of Shoora shall be treated as a law even if it is against teachings of Islam and Sharia,.

Requirements:

* Candidate must have a certificate of training from Taliban recognized Madrassah or group backed by CIA/RAW.
* No formal education or knowledge of law is required;
* The candidate must have at least 10 years practical experience of terrorist activities in Afghanista, Pakistan or successfully undergone RAW’s training program;
* Candidates with Experience in public flogging, beheading or punishing women in Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan will be given preference;
* Candidates should be expert in use of light and heavy weapons, developing suicide jackets, IED, Truck bomb and conducting road blocks;
* All candidate should demonstrate their willingness to abide by Taliban dress code and rituals;
* Ability to implement laws of Emirates without application of mind and in disregard of Islamic teachings. The focus should be on maximum and harsh punishments to terrorize people, religion or humanity are not important

Selection Process:

* Candidates should walk in for interview with their application written by hand on dry leaves or hides in head office of Emirate, applications written on paper shall not be considered;
* Do not attach photo’s, applications with a photographs shall not be considered;
* At time of interview candidate must cover face with black cloth or use medical mask dyed in black color;
* Practical test includes demonstration of skills of live shooting, beheading and flogging, Emirates will provide living women and children for tests;
* Weapons test includes an excellent speed of killing and accuracy of hitting girls schools with RPG’s. Half hour test will be carried live any city of Pakistan;
* All candidates should demonstrate ability of assembling suicide jackets, IED and exploding bridges, cars and public buildings.
