Defamation of the Prime Minister or Chief Minister of a state without concrete proof of wrongdoing is an offense in India.

Several people were arrested during the UPA era as well for abusing the then-PM Manmohan Singh, then-CM of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh, UPA head Sonia Gandhi, etc. People even today, get arrested for defaming/abusing/tarnishing CMs of non-BJP states like Kerala where communists are ruling, or West Bengal where TMC is ruling.
