Welcome to the tribalization of Pakistan - and why not? if "the people" and their representatives want it, then it must be "good", right?? So why not.

At the moment no one is satified with this decision , lot of question rising in mind who is right?

Time will prove it , Neither Shariah laws implementation nor peace can be restored in few days, it is continues process but we should give them a chance to show their performance.

Once again, for most Pakistanis, the issue is not the content -- they have no tools to judge the content --- Why would Muslims reject Shariah?? Could it be that Shariah is rejected because it does not reslove the problems of the 21st century?? Could it be that it is archaic and worst of all, UNJUST??

Islam is complete religion ,majority of muslims dont have knowledge about these laws,there are four fiqa in islam and each have slightly different interpretations about shariah laws but still basic laws are same and practicable.

Afterall, laws are made for people and society -- and that means that laws can change, after all, the laws are made by humans in relation to specific circumstances and situations to further specific goals of society ---

But Shariah is "Divine" is it not?? it either is or it is not -- If shariah is not "divine" and can be made and altered by men, then how will these laws be made and alterted? Who will do this?

Whole responsibility lies on shoulder of Ulema Deen now to resolve the conflicts in shariah law if any, let them resolve ,difference of opinion is healthy sign and IGTEHAD is always there to find a way out .

There are 2 streams...

Matter of creed, dealing with societal values and morals...these stay constant regardless of the era. For example pre-marital or extra-marital sex is not allowed; homosexuality is not allowed; universal education must be implemented; universal healthcare must be implemented; housing the population is a priority; basing the monetary system on gold and silver is mandatory, etc.

Matter of administration, dealing with effeciency, technology, organization, etc. Traffic lights, road laws, etc, are an issue of administration, and would be applied to achieve effeciency, safety, etc. These can change and be changed to fit the times.

Where in Quran are these mandated?? Is Shariah system mandated in Quran??

Did the beloved prophet's Mecca or the righteously guided Khulafa "implement a welfare state in the name of Shariah??

Where is the money for universal healthcare and education come from?? What percentage of taxes are generated in the Pakhtunkhwa?

Ofcourse I do not mock this utopian vision, I merely seek to understand how it will work and what kind of justifcation, especially religious will be trotted out for the "people" to absorb.

Wow, these guys are on a roll now...surely they're not going to stop with Swat?

I think the options here were limitd and whereas in the end Army may have been able to enforce rule of law,it would have caused a lot o f blood shed and made the army more unpopular. As such it is a shrewd and timely move to allow the army to concentrate on other fornts. It would also force the hands of any scoundrels who try to use the situation to cause any unrest. I think if the political setup moves in with a lot of developmental work and this results in jobs for the local populace, it wouls cause other regions to seek a similar deal. It is important to understand that it is in Pakistans interest to have peace within its borders, not the US nor anyone else. It is high time Pakistan looked after its own interests first instead of being led astray by people who have no concept of ground realities.

If the options were limited as suggested, it hard to see anything shrewd or timely in the move to hand over part of the nation to an orgnisation which has been waging war against the state.

It appears pretty close to a sell out. Was PA scared of being un popular ? If it cannot deliver what / when the nation calls it better be prepared for unpopularity. Does this imply the Swat has been handed over to retain the PA on popularity charts ? In any case except for the Navy & Nukes, virtually all other weapons were used - to no avail. Wouldn't this ' shrewd & timely' move actually tantamount to surrender ?

A horrible precedent has now been set, the jackals have tasted blood, it has been now established that GOP's writ within Pak IS negotiable - only the right amount of pressure & leverage has to be applied- in the right place.

If the GOP thinks it has called the bluff it may soon realize that it has begun to sell its family jewels to stay afloat.

Very unfortunate indeed. Both for Pakistan & the region - we haven't seen the last of this.

Australia welcomes Swat deal, urges political dialogue

ISLAMABAD: Australia welcomes the latest peace agreement between the Pakistan government and Taliban who are fighting for enforcement of sharia in Swat, and expects positive outcome of the deal, Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said on Monday. In a joint press conference with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, he said, “It is a positive development and we hope for a positive outcome.” Smith also said military enforcement was not enough to fight terrorism and it was important to engage moderate elements through political dialogue.
