Preparations on for super-sonic BrahMos testfiring

You heard correctly. The human body can withstand double-digit gs only for very short duration. We found that out in research long ago. The 9g limit for humans is for sustained lateral acceleration. As far as the aircraft itself goes, modern avionics have g-limiter that protects not only the pilot but also the aircraft in that external stores under sustained centrifugal force will create joint stresses that may be catastrophic. So be careful with those airframe 'stories'.

But I think airframe of an aircraft is also vulnerable to damage during high G acceleration

One MiG-25 withstood an inadvertent 11.5 g (112.8 m/s²) pull during low-altitude dogfight training, but the resulting deformation damaged the airframe beyond repair.

It depends upon the the materials used in composition of airframe.

Now india has tested this brahmos missile, what will be Pakistans answer to it??

Depends upon what next China has to offer covertly to pakistan.

IMO, Even china lags behind us in Supersonic cruise missiles. So it wont be able to give generous charity to its friends like it used to do.

I dont think Pakistan would take missile from china.... Who knows Pakistan might surprise India if it test fires another cruise missile...

Well, Errr.... Babur ,RAAD was no Surprise, those were existing technologies, werent they??? But Brahmos Is New and Only One In its Class.... And Even before anyone could come to it, we already are researching On Hypersonic, One Shourya and Another is Brahmos II:smokin:

The Indian Army tested one of its BrahMos supersonic cruise missile on India's East Coast today. Sources say the test validated supersonic manoeuver that began with an earlier test, and was the first test in which the missile employed a "steep dive".

Brahmos is improving by leaps and bounds -- after every two or three tests we hear some new improvements on the missile...Excelllent ---

^^ +1 I was thinking the same thing. Given the impressive specs of brahmos blk1 normally we would have expected govt. to get lax until something similar is acquired by our neighbours.

However, in this case Brahmos corp. was proactive in going ahead and developing an improved blk 2 and planning for hypersonic Brahmos 2.

This is unbelievable, indian defence planning being proactive?

We need a few people from Brahmos in MoD! :smitten:

He may look like a south Indian villain but he is not. He is a hero of unbound callibre, one of the leagues of Dr APJ, G Madhavan, Kasturangan, V K Sarswat etc

Its because of people like him that we are world leaders in cruise missile technology. Technologically Far Far superior than our deprived neighbours.

NEW DELHI: India will soon become the first country to have cruise missiles with hyper speed of over 6,000 km per hour, as an agreement for their joint development will be signed with Russia during the visit of President Dmitry Medvedev here in December.

The first unit of Kudankulam nuclear plant, built by Russia in Tamil Nadu, will also be commissioned during the visit slated to begin from December 21.

Medvedev will be undertaking the visit for annual India-Russia Summit with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during which the two sides will discuss ways to further enhance their relations in various fields.

One of the highlights of the visit would be signing of a contract for joint development of hypersonic version of the BrahMos cruise missile, defence ministry sources said here.

This version of the missile will have a speed of over 6,000 kms per hour, making India the only country in the world to possess such missiles of this speed.

The speed of the existing variant of BrahMos is half than that of the proposed ones.

With a range of 290 kms, the hypersonic missiles are expected to be ready by 2015-16, the sources said.

The much-delayed first unit of Kudankulam nuclear power plant is also expected be made operational during the visit of Medvedev, who will be visiting the site for the purpose, they said.

The commissioning of the 1,000 MW Kudankulam-I, work on which began three years back, will set in motion the roadmap that the two countries are working on in the field of atomic energy cooperation.

Under the roadmap, a number of nuclear reactors would be set up by Russia in India.

Four of the reactors are envisaged to be established in Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu and one in Haripur in West Bengal, with scope for more in future.

The proposal to set up a Russian nuclear plant in Haripur is facing resistance from local people, but the government is hopeful of convincing them about its utility and allay their apprehensions.

The second unit of Kudankulam power plant will be made operational within six months of commissioning of the Unit-I.

During the visit of the Russian President, a number of other defence deals are also expected to be signed.

it has a very short range and can carry conventional warhead with payload upto 300 kg as compare to babur which has range 710 km (thrice as compared to brahmos), it can carry nuclear or conventional warheads with payload more than 300 kg.... It also has stealth features.....
the only thing babur lacks is the speed (mach .9)

I'll answer you pointwise.

1.it has a very short range

--- 290 km for an AShM is not a short range. Many of the world's best AShM have their range below 150km. It's not only about firing the missile; it's about locating the enemy and firing the missile and guiding it until the on board sensors can take over. This becomes more and more difficult as the distance increases.

--- In land attack version, yes , improving the range is desirable. However, given the lack of relative strategic depth pakistan can be very well covered with this missile.
Just draw a circle with amritsar as the centre and look for yourself how many of the vital pakistani establishments fall in that.

2. payload of only 300kg.

--- Again, 300kg by itself is not a small amount. But, even then payload is one of the determinants of the destructive power of a missile, another one is the kinetic energy.

By equation K.E. = 1/2 m v2, we find that doubling the speed of missile will increase it's K.E> by four times. Thus, brahmos has enough destructive power of it's own

Well the Thing which Is Impressive is Its Fire and Forgetness thing :D It cannot be Intercepted Both Because of Its Speed and Stealthiness, Next Thing to be surprised About is that, In Some Missiles the Guidance Commands are generated Inside by the Missile Computer , In Some Other Its transmitted By an External Source, But In BRAHMOS the Guidance System By itself operates as an Auto Pilot Damping out Fluctuations that tend to deflect the Missile from Its Intended flight path and thus making it Pin Point accurate with High lethal Power aided by large Kinetic Energy On Impact

Shorter Flight time leading to lover target dispersion and Quicker Engagement.... Now get it why its so Impressive ????:D

3. Conventional payload-

As it is a joint venture, brahmos cannot have a nuclear warhead. (at least openly).
However, it was never intended as a nuke delivery system, for this purpose (with pakistan in mind) we have developed this...

The Shaurya missile is a canister launched hypersonic surface-to-surface tactical missile developed by the Indian Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for use by the Indian Armed Forces. It has a range of between 750 to 1900 km and is capable of carrying a payload of one-tonne conventional or nuclear warhead. It gives the potential to strike in the short-intermediate range against any adversary.
