ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has warned of strong “resistance” if the controversial Kalabagh dam project is revived, terming such a move an “utter disrespect” to parliament and the people of the country.

PPP Senator Sassui Palijo said in a statement here on Sunday that the provincial assemblies of three provinces had rejected Kalabagh dam and “whoever will support this rejected dam will face strong resistance”.

Take a look: CJP hints at charging dam opponents with treason

The statement was issued by the party apparently in reaction to the remarks of Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar at a ceremony in Lahore on Saturday in which he had said that only Kalabagh dam “guaranteed the survival and security of Pakistan”.

The CJP stated that they had not stopped pursuing the matter of Kalabagh dam’s construction.

“If the nation agrees then we will also build Kalabagh dam after the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams,” the CJP had reportedly said at the ceremony.

However, the PPP senator said that talking about Kalabagh dam amounted “to rubbing salt on the wounds of the people of Sindh”.

Ms Palijo said the people of Sindh were faced with acute shortage of water and only 30 per cent of land could be cultivated this year. She said that because of lack of water downstream Kotri barrage, thousands of land in Thatta and Badin had been eaten by the sea water.

It may be recalled that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had even expressed his reservations over the proposed construction of Diamer-Bhasha dam.

Talking to media in Karachi last week, the Sindh chief minister had stated that he was not against the construction of Bhasha dam but had “some reservations” over its “location and availability of water in the system” in such a quantity that the dam could be filled.

In reply to a question about the Bhasha dam, he had said it (the dam site) lay in the seismic area and the quantity of water required to fill the dam was not available in the (Indus) system.

Mr Shah had said that the Bhasha dam project was originally initiated by the PPP government, but objections were raised on its technical issues. Therefore, he insisted, “the Centre needs to take the federating units on board” over such controversial projects.

The chief minister said that his government and party’s policy on construction of dams was very clear as the Sindh government was constructing 34 small dams and work on them had almost been completed while work on 16 other (small) dams was to begin soon.

In May, the then opposition leader in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Shah, had even warned that the people of Sindh might have to close the province’s border and cut it from the rest of the country if it would continue to be denied its due water share. Mr Shah is also opposed to the idea of building dams through donations.

. .
If PPP would include resistance to giving Afghan refugees citizenship, I will support them.

. . . .
If Pee Pee Pee were in power forget about any new dams being built, even Godfather wont build a dam, since nobody is going to give any money to the corrupt thief, right now water has become a life and death issue, new dams have to be built come what may.

.
They started questioning Bhasha Dam and in response CJP deliberately raised Kala Bagh dam issue to shut them up. Their rhetoric will be limited to KBD only. Zayeda buqwaas ki tu bhasha kya, Kalabagh build up ki baat be chir jaye gi.

.
PPP need something to survive out corruption cases. Plus, they know Kalabagh dam will not built , due to cost factor.

.
We are not Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, GB & AJK. We are Pakistanis. All of the land in the country is ours, so lets put provincial differences aside and construct Kalabagh dam which will serve our future generations for years to come.

A much delayed project.

One Question what is the issue with these so called Dams
Everyone knows
Pakistan doesn't have much storage capcity
Pakistan needs cheaper electricity
Pakistan needs storage to control floods and water for off seasons

Beside saying andorani baroni sazish , and water whats the point these parties keep yelling ?
Thanks

Thank God they're never getting into Govt again. PPP is a party of feudal dirt bags.
Sorry to say i may be wrong
Including PTI
I think with all its fault army is the best option
no current party has the will , harmony , human resources , and for sight to work and solve majority of Pakistani problem they require atleast 1 to 2 decades of continuous work which goes against parties as they long short term goals so they can get back to power

PTI needs to atleast 2 goals for nation and party
1 short term ( 2 to 4 years )
2 long term ( 5 to 2 decades)
And be open with nation that so people can actually see and understand both projects and the progress so they can vote for them in next election
And they can continue working , since both should be as important not just short term goals

Pakistani nation needs to change the way of thinking , they are so used to corruption its a normal thing they dont think a small level of bribe is same as million of dollars corruption,
Education , justice
All these requires long term planning and work and currently beside army i dont see any other who can do this task , PTI with all its glory is based on Imran Khan without him nothint much and after him provinces will go back to older parties if this continues in few decade these provinces might even try to form own states just so these party can keep hold of there areas

There is dire need of operation on PPP just like it was done on MQM.
They should raid bilawal house and detain all corrupt PPP mafia.
PPP is a curse to Pakistan they divided the country in half and will not hesitate to do it again, Federal Govt, CJP and military needs to act now.

. .
Here is PPP resolution against Kala Bagh Dam. Not even a single logical reason behind their opposition. No doubt where Indian investment of 200 crores is going.Govt should Hang these morons.

PPP rules in Senate, Sindh and also within PTI.
So, If PPP has said no to Kalabagh dam, than consider it acknowledged (aye aye Sir) by ruling PTI.
