It wasn't Nawaz Sharif that turned down the dam. That was the consensus taking the following nation's input into the account. To the extent, the nation even justified for it.

I am surprised that Mangla dam and other development projects like Motorway became reality which is very unlikely given the nation being anti-stance on development projects including most political leaders that are currently part of PTI now.

ANP leader Afrasiab Khattak was on some news channel last night along with two engineers who worked on kalabagh dam's report, design and infrastructure. Khattak was making a point that if kalabagh is built the entire Nowshehra city would sink in water in case of flood, the engineer explained him technically that this is just a myth nothing as such is going to happen, khattak when embarrassed quickly jumps on the point that why everyone is so concerned abt khalabagh, why not think about other options . Its the parties like PEE PEE PEE and ANP who oppose kalabagh for no reason they are doing politics on it from years...its their bread and butter.

Now we do know Sindh Heavily rely on canals because ground water is not suitable & some facts in past where sindh accused Punjab getting water more then its share from canals.

Probably most members are unaware that dam primary task is not power Generation. Its agriculture they had to make schedule such that during irrigation that can release waters in canals. No matter dam is full or not.
In simple words their eyes are on Agriculture needs not on Power Load in a country,

we need for 4~5 dam Mega Dams in 10~15 years.

PPP Senator Sassui Palijo said in a statement here on Sunday that the provincial assemblies of three provinces had rejected Kalabagh dam and “whoever will support this rejected dam will face strong resistance”.

However, the PPP senator said that talking about Kalabagh dam amounted “to rubbing salt on the wounds of the people of Sindh”.

Ms Palijo said the people of Sindh were faced with acute shortage of water and only 30 per cent of land could be cultivated this year. She said that because of lack of water downstream Kotri barrage, thousands of land in Thatta and Badin had been eaten by the sea water.

Thats why we need all dams to save every drop of water

It may be recalled that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had even expressed his reservations over the proposed construction of Diamer-Bhasha dam.

Why?

Talking to media in Karachi last week, the Sindh chief minister had stated that he was not against the construction of Bhasha dam but had “some reservations” over its “location and availability of water in the system” in such a quantity that the dam could be filled.

Then why not support KB water flow is more and dam is smaller in size? They will released water during agri need even if dam is not fill and most likely dam will hardly ever gets to its full level unless major floods.

In reply to a question about the Bhasha dam, he had said it (the dam site) lay in the seismic area and the quantity of water required to fill the dam was not available in the (Indus) system.

But Kala Bagh is not in Seismic area & smaller in Size & water flow is higher. So whats if you have bucket and you fill 20~40% max(its example i don't have actual numbers). ask those idiots who said Diamer Basha Storage & power generation is greater then KB? oh wait PPP is in those idiot list.

Mr Shah had said that the Bhasha dam project was originally initiated by the PPP government, but objections were raised on its technical issues. Therefore, he insisted, “the Centre needs to take the federating units on board” over such controversial projects.

How & why? Don't constuct KB dont construct Diamer Basha then whats else or you want to give india blank cheque to constuct all dams becuase we are wasting water.

The chief minister said that his government and party’s policy on construction of dams was very clear as the Sindh government was constructing 34 small dams and work on them had almost been completed while work on 16 other (small) dams was to begin soon.

Small dams is not cost effective small dam will not protect you from floods small dam will not solve any issue only pratical use is water storage for small area and usually water in those areas are rare.

In May, the then opposition leader in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Shah, had even warned that the people of Sindh might have to close the province’s border and cut it from the rest of the country if it would continue to be denied its due water share.

Oh really who is responsible for it? few years back we had flood now things changed. even if water is unpridictable its more of a reason to have multiple mega water storage so that water could be saved for years to come.

Mr Shah is also opposed to the idea of building dams through donations.

You are tight but unless we could take back every single Rupee from corrupt politician we have no other options.
