Power outage [load-shedding] back across country

We can pick bad points about both parties but bottom line is corruption is still rampant in BD. Load shedding/power outages still happen, in fact more than it did during than BNP's tenure.
Does it happen more now than during BNP's term? Because when BNP left out total generation capacity was like 4000MW now it is 15351MW. The point is had BNP added more electricity to the national grid there would be less load shedding today. For some reason @idune won't tell me how much electricity did the BNP govt add in their term? And call about looting then why did during BNP's term Bangladesh were the champions in corruptions?
Then why Gen in Ban Is around 7-10Gw
Nah my friend.....BD has a generation capacity of 15351 MW. And the demand is much higher than the gen capacity surely over 20000MW. The govt has plans to increase the generation capacity to 24000MW BY 2021 and even this probably won't be able to meet the demand.

According to BPDB website, on May 24, 2010, the highest generation of power was 4356 MW, and load shedding was 743 MW; on 24 May ,2011, the highest generation was 4837 MW and the load shedding was 707 MW; in May, 2012 the highest generation was 5782 MW; on 24 May, 2013, the highest generation was 5366 MW; on 24 May, 2014, the highest generation was 5705 MW and load shedding was 140 MW; on 24 May, 2015, the highest generation was 7394, on 24 May, 2016, the highest generation was 7878 MW and load shedding was 252 MW. On May 24, BPDB website showed that the load shedding figure was 979 MW. But the experts believe that this is not the accurate figure of load shedding. According to them it would be between 2000 MW to 3000 MW.

“The calculation is very simple. The captive power is more than 2,000 MW from outside which is not connected with the national grid. But within the grid, it is not possible to generate 950 MW of electricity out of the total amount owing to gas shortage. Besides, some private companies, such as Summit, require 1,200MW of electricity to maintain their plants,” said Abul Baser Khan, member of the power generation department of the BPDB.

CHITTAGONG, June 3: A group of local people vandalised Saturday the office of the Palli Bidyut Samity-1 near Indrapole at Patiya in south Chittagong to protest alleged non-supply of electricity.

Over one hundred aggrieved people from the locality attacked the Palli Bidyut station at around 11.15 am, vandalised window glasses, four computers and a laptop within five minutes and left the area, said officials at the station.

Seven upazilas of the south Chittagong region get electricity supply from this station.

General Manager of the Palli Bidyut Samity-1, Patiya AHM Mobarak Ullah said the electric supply was disrupted for two/three days as Cyclone Mora hit the region.

"But electricity supply resumed on Friday and currently there is no problem," he said adding that the damage caused to the Samity office would be worth around Tk one million.

He alleged all on a sudden, the people attacked the power station, vandalised window glasses of the office on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway, damaged four computers and a laptop of the office. They also beat and injured two cashiers of the office, he said.

"We will go for legal action against those involved in the attack after scrutiny of the video footage," he said.

Contacted, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Patiya police station Md Neyamat Ullah said some people attacked the Palli Bidyut Samity office and vandalised the window glasses.

"Getting information, we rushed to the scene but found none of the attackers as they left the place within five minutes. We have learnt that the people were suffering a lot for not getting electricity for three to four days."

He said the police is not aware of anybody's instigation in the incident as claimed by the Palli Bidyut Samity officials.

The police will take appropriate legal action if the Palli Bidyut authority files allegation with the police, he said.
