Power outage [load-shedding] back across country

But, before that Begum Zia was in power for five years. She and her govt partner Jamaat stole 20,000crore Taka only from power sector without building a single power station. Even if NP Jamaat had built only 3000 mW power stations, there would have been lesser amount of suffering by the people. Shame on BNP/Jamaat.

We can pick bad points about both parties but bottom line is corruption is still rampant in BD. Load shedding/power outages still happen, in fact more than it did during than BNP's tenure.

Awami league looted $4 billion in JUST one year that was 1/3 of total tax revenue of Bangladesh. These are documented and reoccurring looting by awami league every year in last 8 years.

Where has all the electricity gone?
M. A. Taslim
In order to make the rental plants sufficiently lucrative to the private players, the government had to provide sovereign guarantees regarding prices at which fuel oil would be supplied to the plant operators, and electricity would be purchased by the government. Since very large gaps have emerged between the guaranteed prices and the prices paid or received by the government, the rental plants have to be provided with enormous amounts in subsidies. It is estimated that during the current fiscal year subsidy payments to the rental power plants might exceed Tk320 billion, i.e. about one-third of the total tax revenue of the government.

This enormous subsidy requirement has put the government finances in a quandary, which has been further intensified by the drying up of expected foreign funds due to difficulties on the foreign policy front. The government was forced to take the unprecedented step to shift part of the current subsidy to the next budget. This may open up a new door to further mismanagement of the economy.

Much hope was pinned on the government's resolve to quickly overcome power shortages. However, within three years the hopes have transmuted into frustration. In attempting to solve a nagging problem, the government seems to have created several more. The hapless people will be forced to bear the consequences of the blunder of their government; they have reasons to be angry.

No. Furthermore, you are just shameless looters like your political godmother Hasina. Just yesterday, she said in JS that power outage is good for people because they will have to pay less power bill.

Title of the news is different from the content. Please read the entire content. What the PM said about bill payment may have come from two factors;

1) The PM was little annoyed about many complain of load shedding while she herself is doing her best to solve the issue.
2) People should curse BNP/Jamaat because these two circus parties did not add even 1 watt of electricity to the national grid, but people are blaming the PM and her party.

go say these in front of people in Bangladesh. They are ready with their shoe and gono for you and your political god mother Hasina.

BTW guys I wanna ask the Question When Per Capita is Same in Ban As in Pak according to some folks, Then why Gen in Ban Is around 7-10Gw while in Pakistan is Almost Double around 14-18GW. While Demand is around 20GW+.

Pakistan and Bangladesh electricity market is not really something they trade (and thus influence demand/supply of their currency on forex market). Thus production/consumption of that is more reflected in the PPP economy compared to nominal....and its one reason why Pakistan's is much higher than BD in that.

Do you understand the idea of accumulated wealth?

A rough example is the difference between a 50 year old on 50,000 US dollars forever and another 50 year old who has slowly raised his income to also be on 50,000 US dollars over time.

The same analogy could be said between Pakistan and BD. Only now after 70 years of independence from the UK in 1947 has BD finally caught up with GDP/capita of Pakistan.

@Nilgiri.

Hopefully this is the last time I need teach one of our Pakistani friends about this.

Again I ask for solid evidence rather than the opinion of one person - not relevant that he is an economics professor at Dhaka University.

Do you not understand that if the BD government diverted 1/3rd of tax money to subsidise rental power plants then it possibly could not pay government employees salaries as well? In fact it doubled employees salaries in 2015 from what it was in 2009. So we cannot say on one hand that BD government is wasting money in rental power plants and on the other hand bribing millions of government employees by increasing their wages.

Please use logic if you want people to take you seriously.

Kindly study the self explanatory year wise Power Generation of Bangladesh,since its inception till present(2016), this correctly reflects the power generated during the tenure of all successive governments from 1971 till date.

You moron. Government borrowing as a % of GDP is going down every year or is Awami League making that up as well?

Your stupidity is beyond belief. You live in US
and your written English is appalling.

Interesting, a General and a Major General, both Bangladeshi (NRB's) squabbling on petty matters, what impressions will the new recruits have?

show the proof?

What do you want me to show? Every year there are allotments of money for different sectors. For power development it was 20,000 crore Taka in 5 years. That money has been spent, but not a single watt of electricity was added. So, how do you explain it?

Oh!! I remember that during BNP/Jamaat time the US dollar suddenly rose to $1.0=Tk.74.0 before Begum Zia left for Omrah with 74 suitcases full of something. Before her people started to buy dollar from the open market the exchange rate was $1.0 = Tk.68.0.
