The Hindus don't exactly claim the hygiene part. For them it is the divine part of cow. Roughly what is happening in India is that a minority of Hindus extremists are causing havoc. That said these minority are tacitly supported by majority of moderate Hindus. The real open-minded/tolerant Hindus are far and few.The problem is the disingenuis Hindutvas here.
They are claiming to not want slaughter becuase of hygine.

Neither of them claimed to be "secular democracies"Mughal and British both banned cow slaughter in the name of religion.
Even Salman Khan and coartists facing court trials for a killing a black bug deer.Rule is rule.If some thing is banned you are not allowed to kill that animal including humans.Neither of them claimed to be "secular democracies"
But there is a difference between rules made because they are the right thing to do...like rules against robbery...and then there are rules made to please the majority like the ban on beef. The law u r bringing up about Salman Khan hunting that deer makes sense bcuz it is endangered and hence needs to be protected. Tell me...are cows endangered?Even Salman Khan and coartists facing court trials for a killing a black bug deer.Rule is rule.If some thing is banned you are not allowed to kill that animal including humans.
for hindus and muslims both

The Arabs stopped burying their newborn girls alive back in the 7th century, your kind is killing your own girls by the millions.
And then the hygiene practice of the Hindu Indians, it is hard to believe Indians live in the 21st century .
