PN to get AEW aircraft and UAVs; Navy Chief

how about that sir!;)
Y-8 Rotodome Airborne Early Warning Aircraft

Following the introduction of the KJ-2000 AWACS and KJ-200 (Y-8 'Balance Beam’) AEW aircraft in 2001/02, a third Chinese AEW aircraft programme was revealed in 2005. Based on the Shaanxi Y-8F-400 airframe, the aircraft features a conventional rotodome mounted above the fuselage. Internet source photos showed that an example has been built, carrying serial number T0518. The exact status of the programme is unknown, but some sources suggested that the aircraft may have been aiming the export market.

Airborne electronic systems has been a focus of the PLA’s extensive military modernisation since the 1990s. In particular, AEW capability has been seen by the military as vital to obtain air superiority over the Taiwan Strait. The fact that the PLAAF is testing AEW/AWACS designs with different radar arrangements (rotodome, fixed dish radome phased array radar, and ‘balance beam’-style electronically scanned array radar) reflects its serious intention to develop a modernised AEW&C capability.

The Y-8F-400 was developed by Shaanxi in Aircraft Industry Corporation in 2001. The aircraft features a solid nose which replaced the Y-8’s original ‘glass-in’ nose design, and a three-man flight crew. All windows on the fuselage were removed. A pair of vertical stabilisers are fitted on the tips of the tail-plane to enhance directional stability.

Little is known about the performance of the radar system fitted on the new Y-8 AEW. It was estimated that the aircraft may be comparable to the U.S. E-2C Hawkeye in terms of performance and capabilities.;):agree:

My question is who will escort the AEW that PN is acquiring since PN does not has an aviation wing??

Just look at the heading of the article on an Indian web site:

Pakistan Commits to Further Militarization: UAVs, Submarines, AWACS on Shopping List
Dated 2/2/2009

Reports indicated that Pakistan Navy confirmed their intention to acquire drones, spy planes and submarines. Speaking Thursday at a ceremony to induct a Fokker aircraft and commission the T-56 Engine Test Bench at the Pakistan Navy Aviation Base PNS Mehran, Admiral Noman Bashir described the induction of Z-9 helicopters, airborne early warning systems (AEWs), and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as force multipliers for the navy's fleet of aircraft.

The T-56 engine powers the navy's P-3C Orion maritime reconnaissance aircraft. To enhance the navy's 'subsurface defence capabilities', Bashir said a contract would soon be signed for the German-designed HDW Type-214 submarines. Commander of Naval Aviation, Commodore Adnan Nazir, said the Fokker, being a versatile aircraft, would serve to augment the operational capabilities of the fleet.

The setting up of the T-56 Engine Test Bench was a step towards self-reliance as it would be used for overhauling and maintaining the P-3C aircraft, Dawn Friday quoted Nazir as saying.

Question about the LMM - It seems, per my unscientific observation, that missile is not going to be sinking any ships.

If 'ship sinking' is not on the cards, will that be a anti radiation weapon, used to disable enemy radars etc.?

.
below is a quote from a "source" in the PN.

"Three F-22Ps are planned so far further contructions at KSEW. total 4.

U-214 is the first choice, however, facing some inertia delays of the new govt.

Nakhoda Class, actually not in picture..

AEW with Hawkeye system is most likely arriving as it came up in the news.

Turkey is our traditional friend and both coutries share mil cooperation.

MEKOs were once very hot, however, lately i ve not heard any progress in this direction.

In the long run perhaps China is likely to be our front line supplier and of course tailored products like JF-17 and F-22P."

The LMM is designed not to sink ships per say, its not the role of a UAV or UCAV at present. The role of LMM on the Camcopter S-100 is primarily to counter and potential air-air threat (against maybe helicopters or other UAV's) or may take out or disable any small RHIB's presenting asymmetric threat at sea! The LMM can also take out external radar and other EW external sensors on ship (like a communications mast etc) to render the enemy ship blind for some time.
