Wednesday, May 21, 2014 - Islamabad—“Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme for Less Developed Areas” will be officially launched at Quetta today under the aegis of Prime Minister’s Youth Programme. This was decided in a meeting chaired by Madam Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chairperson of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme,here at Prime Minister’s House.
While finalizing the arrangements for the launch of “PM’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme for Less Developed Areas”, the Chairperson said that the present democratic government had accorded top priority to the areas neglected in the past and this time both Balochistan and FATA were placed high on the list of the progressive agenda of development. The chairperson maintained that the Premier Mohammad Nawaz Sharif’s directives would be implemented in letter and spirit by ensuring the outreach of the PMYP to all areas of the country and further said that PMYP was apolitical developmental scheme aimed at providing capital along with skilled training to the youth of the country as was committed by the Prime Minister before assuming the power. She said that maximum transparency and merit in all the schemes of the PMYP would be followed.
“Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme for the Talented Students of Less Developed Areas is a milestone in this direction as the scheme is being officially launched from Balochistan which echoes the importance our government attaches to the uplift of the province”, the chairperson observed. Highlighting the vital features of the “Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme for the Less Developed Areas”, the Chairperson revealed that the scheme is aimed at encouraging the talented students of the under-privileged areas in their pursuit of higher education by reimbursing the 100% cost of the educational expenses of the post- graduate students undertaking Masters and Ph. D courses. The Chairperson further revealed that under the scheme the government would directly pay to the relevant university at an average Rs. 40,000/- of annual educational expenses on behalf of the students undertaking higher education.
The total volume of the scheme is Rs 1.2 billion covering more than 35,000 post-graduate students across Pakistan. All students registered in a Masters/Ph.D program in an HEC approved public sector educational institution and domiciled in interior Sindh, Southern Punjab (Multan, Bahawalpur and DG Khan), Balochistan, less developed areas of KP (Malakand, Kohistan and DI Khan), GB and FATA are eligible to apply for the scheme.—INP

Good initiative. Students from these places have plenty of hurdles to overcome, as it is. The only worry is about potential for abuse. Lets see how GOP handles this.
