PMLN want PTI to form South Punjab Province

Even if the division is successful, it will come to effect in or after next GE. Logistically it will not be possible to do it right after passing the bill.

If Punjab is divided into two provinces than who will be the CM of upper Punjab ? Certainly PMLN has the most seats there so automatically they will be having their own CM while lower Punjab will be govern by than PTI's CM. No wonder PMLN is looking forward to such scenario. This possibility has put PTI in a fix and this is precisely why, they have not announced Punjab CM name as of now since after the creation of 2 provinces, if actually happens, than 1 CM will not make sense.

There is a way around this. PML-N have cultivated supporter/patronage network over the last three decades by using resources of the state that they have become embedded with and area around Lahore. Way around this is do not divide Punjab until end of this parliament. Then just before the next elections divide Punjab. By that stage PTI will have had chance to harvest or root out PML-N patronage networks. If not I guess that is politics for you. PML-N would get a rule a much reduced Punjab.

What constitutional problems ? PTI should float the bill and roll the ball in opposition's court. But I will advise them not to do blunder of making two provinces, divide Punjab into at-least 4 or better convert current divisions into provinces to avoid issues of defining boundaries.

I think idea is to make province with 11 districts of South Punjab region, so there is no hassle in defining the boundaries which are already defined, but I agree rather to divide Punjab in two I think its better to separate the Potohar region as separate province as well because of the current situation Punjab is having the population of +110 is too big to be governed effectively, in a single province there will always remain the felling of deprivation and neglect in south

I second @Indus Pakistan , the sharifs want something out of this election as they know they are being abandoned in the field even by PPP as they have Sindh and hence not too many complaints. PML(N) knows that 5 years of a stable PTI government in Punjab will cause them to lose whatever dwindling support they have from the Lahori crowd.

I think three makes sense. South Punjab [Multan], Central Punjab [Lahore], North Punjab [Rawalpindi]. This way we could get 30 million as the mean figure for the provinces.

Something like -

K-Pk ~ 30.
Sindh ~ 45
North Punjab ~ 25 million
Central Punjab ~ 45 million
South Punjab ~ 30 million
Baloch ~ 10 million as a outlier.

No single province should have a population greater than 30% of the federation.

As per current proposal of division, the efforts of turning South Punjab into Saraikistan will start in no time which itself will be trouble as there's considerable population of non-Seraiki people in that belt, People in Bahawalpur differentiate their language and call it Riasati. But Sarikistan fraction will succeed because of majority and in future if you had to divide it again then you will get same reaction like you now get from Sindhi, Baluchi or Pashtun despite the fact that current geographic boundaries of provinces were drawn when one-unit system was abolished, KP's boundaries are redrawn this year. So, plan for next 100 years and do it wisely now.

Senate demands "equal no of senators" from each province"Majority each province has its own dominated ethnicity...Other provinces do not need a feel to divide there province..They have history and attachment to there land..Its provinces that made up of Pakistan not otherwise...Its not only senate the new Punjab province will after some time demands more and more out of there population..Change the formula of resource sharing only based on population to avoid this, if somebody is really serious

South punjab with 3 times larger land then KP, few million more population will demand same rights as any other province. You are talking as if province of few districts is being made to increase senate seats. And demand for new provinces isn't limited to punjab.

Probably this will be their strategy that before Punjab's partition, PTI gets further consolidated in Central Punjab as well but directing way for southern Punjab province is a must requirement. For this, they got the mandate in lower Punjab.
