Best interest from American perspective would be to kill the rumor that US and PDM are in bed. Allowing PDM to move ahead with energy purchase from Russia would have an insignificant impact on Russian economy but serve to show Pakistani public that US is truly non - partisan in Pakistani domestic politics. As for the U-turn in PDM stated policy on the issue, Imran has taken many U-turns and have gotten away with it. I expect PDM to also be able to successfully market the U-turn as an independent move if they are serious about doing so

Till now PTI have successfully destroyed all the narrative which PDM tried to build, so this stunt is much easier to counter. One Pro-PTI news channel who have beaten all PDM mouth piece bigwigs enjoys more viewership than all others combined. This should tell you mood of public in general and these gimmicks will not make any difference if elections are done within 3-4 months. PDM have chance only if elections are held in 2023 after next budget that's why they are trying very hard to sustain govt.

The article mentions long term contract, I don't think Russia will be too keen to match our Qatar's 2021 contract price (they will be happy to give even 30-40% discount on Dutch TTF but matching 10.2% of Brent will prove to be a difficult negotiation, if Pmln achieves that, it will be a commendable deal).

Negotiations for LT contracts take some time, and under current political instability, it is unlikely to conclude in few weeks. However, they can and should import few spot cargoes (atleast 2 per month) at discounted price (20-30% below spot rates).

I don't know much about your political history. But I think PPP and Army had a substantial ruling period in 30 years. PML may have only had 10 years in between?

I don't know much about your political history. But I think PPP and Army had a substantial ruling period in 30 years. PML may have only had 10 years in between?

If willing to buy from a sanctioned country, why not start with Iran ? It's next door and will save lots of transportation cost. Even Saudis could be persuaded to overlook citing extraordinary circumstances.
