RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif would inaugurate metro bus service in Rawalpindi on June 3, Dunya News reported on Tuesday.

As per details, the inaugural ceremony would take place at Convention Centre Islamabad in a wake of security reasons whereas prominent leaders including Chief Minister of Punjab (CM) Shahbaz Sharif and ministers would participate in the ceremony.

As many as 10 foreign ambassadors have also been invited for the event. Metro bus stations would be adorned 48 hours before the ceremony.

According to sources, Islamabad has 14 metro bus terminals whereas 10 stations have been made in Rawalpindi. Only Rs 20 would be charged on 20 km travelling. On the other hand, administration has arranged at least 66 buses for this purpose.

Moreover, an 18-acre depot has also been made.

Earlier, Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif on Monday has said that the Prime Minister (PM) would inaugurate the Islamabad-Rawalpindi Metrobus in the coming few days.

He announced this in a media briefing held in the capital.

He said that the metrobus route is at least 23 kilometers (Kms) long and has as many as 24 stations. The CM said that the project would benefit the students, job holders and patients primarily. He said that the successful completion of the project is the result of the government’s hard work.

CM Shahbaz said that the government did not take loan for the project. The project would join the underdeveloped areas with the urban areas, he added. The project would provide economic traveling to the citizens. He said that several months were wasted in needless politics and metrobus project also suffered.

I wish best of luck to the people of Rawalpindi and Islamabad but I would have ideally loved to see light railway or tram system in the suburbs of Islamabad

It is the misery that Karachi as a Largest City and Economic hub failed to get same sort of project. This the failure of both provencial and Fedral Govt. PPP provencial govt is busy in smugling money out of country and Fedral Govt dont have any interest lies in Karachi as they did in Indian Punjab.... Karachi needs same sort of mass transit project.

Karachi needs innovative metro system inspired from the likes of Rio de Janeiro Metro, Delhi Metro or Chengdu Metro. A simple KCR may no longer be helpful to meet its growing demands but it would definitely play a pivotal role, if revived
