Just listened to Shahid Khaqan Abbasi who's Minister Petroleum. He said, Lahore's daily petrol demand is 8 lack liters, and its double i.e. around 16 lack liters has been supplied to all petrol pumps in Lahore. So there is no shortage in Lahore right now.

Politics and ghotala. The crisis is only in Punjab not in pakistan

It's like oil ministry directly paying the oil companies without audit with the involvement of Punjab government of pakistan , and only informing the finance ministry by passing CAG of Pakistan. Now CAG of Pakistan which is AGPR(Accountant General Pakistan Revenues) has asked for the audits and this has stopped the fuel supplies till then coming from Qatar.

Just yesterday, the prime minister suspended four senior government officials, including some who had consistently been warning the government in advance of the impending crisis.

Way to go!! Ignoring the problem from being addressed wont fix it!

NO Audit". Perish the thought. How do you think minor bureaucrats make money? There is an "Auditor General of Pakistan" office. Every invoice for the supplies to gov't concerns has to be audited by this office. Ministry of Finance never released any funds without having all the proper paper work. During my time, Section Officer used to be the key person. Some of them demanded 1% of the value provided everything was 100% correct else they would put an objection like 'signature cannot be verified' and the payment got delayed by a month. Request Honourable Members to correct me if the things have since changed.

Pakistan only buys some crude oil from Qatar. Diesel is largely supplied by Kuwait. Motor gasoline is imported thru tenders by the PSO or directly by the independent oil companies. I have managed to get data on gasoline imports during November & December 2014.

Imports during totalled 303, 452 metric tons. However imports during December 2014 were only 267, 373 metric tons that is about 36,000 tons less. (One ton gasoline has roughly 360 litres). Understand January imports are far less because PSO is unable to open Letter of Credit thru lack of funds.

No matter which way you look at it. The mess is primarily due to carelessness of Ministry of Petroleum and the Ministry of Finance.

If SO level officer is getting 1% then US DS Dir JS and so on will have their own stake too. But yes, if SO puts an objection then only his senior can ask him to remove it if the SO is not adamant, in that case it lands to that 1% or even more.

But did you mention officials from AGPR taking this 1% , 2% for not putting the objection or the people in Ministry of P&NG and Finance bypassing the AGPR to make money?

This demands Supreme Court's intervention.

On a side note: So OPEC did not announce plans to cut production yet, how sad, govt. lost chance to transfer the blame to oil producing countries.
