PM pays tributes to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on their martyrdom day

Most generally forgets the contribution of Bengali Freedom Fighters when mentioning martyrs.

Batukeshwar Dutt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It was Batukeshwar Dutta and Bhagat Singh who threw bombs in the assembly.

one of the most renowned but forgotten hero was Jatindra Nath Das - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

he died during hunger strike which Bhagat Singh and others participated.

don't know why Bengali freedom Fighters get so less recognition while it was Bengal which was forefront of the Freedom Fighting movement.

:partay:

Punjab is in outer space :D

No but its not just Pakistan, Pakistan is much bigger, you got Sindhis who don't give a damn about him nor do Baluch, Pukhtoon, Kashmiris give two hoots about this guy.

What punjabis think of him is their own personal choice, now that hardly makes it pakistan because of one disillusioned group.

The pictures you posted are of Punjabis and of Lahori Punjabis, now show me some with other PAKISTANIS.

Ahh,we are used to these kinds of treatment since the last six decades.Sometimes i feel that we Bengalis are also somewhat responsible for this as we were the ones who never gave those Bengali martyrs their due respect.Heck, our very "own" CP(I)M led Left front Govt. even called Netaji "a stray dog" in public and we Bengalis stood in silence instead of throwing them out of India.Accept it or not but the reality is that we deserve this treatment as we are the ones solely responsible for this:tsk:.

Bhagwan's presence turns Bhagat Singh event venue into fortress
Bengaluru, September 29, 2015, DHNS:
Unprecedented security arrangements marked Bhagat Singh’s 109th birth anniversary celebration at the Central College on Monday.

In an unheard-of experience for a retired academician, Prof K S Bhagwan, who has been in the eye of the storm for his controversial views on the Gita and on Hindutva in general, took part in the event amidst tight security.

Presenting an ironical picture of the occasion, the police had to hold the fort while students rendered songs in praise of the leader's revolutionary ideas.

A metal detector was placed at the entrance of the Senate Hall where the event was held and each visitor was video recorded. Police officials escorted the professor throughout the event, tracking every move.

There has also been widespread opposition to him being named for the Kannada Sahitya Academy award. Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the event, Bhagwan said he had been writing about these ideas for the last three decades.

“If you do not like what I am saying, if you think what I am saying is wrong and what I have perceived is wrong, my works are publicly available. You can read them and present your opinions. If you think my opinions and my criticisms are not right, you can reject them. I welcome criticism,” he said.

When asked about appearing for a debate on his views on television, he said there was no necessity for it. “My books are there. I have written in them everything I wanted to say. Writing is more authentic than speaking,” he stated. Further, he said he was honoured that the Kannada Sahitya Academy chose him for the award.

“Several senior and acclaimed poets and authors have appreciated my work. Some people are opposing it only for political reasons. I have said nothing that is unconstitutional,” he added. As part of his address to the students, he called upon them to stand against casteist and sectarian practices.

“True patriotism is when you accept everyone in your country. It is not merely praying to India’s map. Casteism is the most unreasonable and unrealistic system. This country will not progress as long as there is casteism,” he said.

As for the threat calls he had been receiving earlier, Prof Bhagwan said the calls had stopped once the police started investigating the matter.

Kin demands 'martyr' status for Bhagat Singh | Zee News

Bhopal: Kin of legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on Thursday demanded 'martyr' status for him along with others who laid down their lives for country's freedom between 1757 and 1947.

"Freedom fighters like Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Ashfaqulla Khan and innumerable others who laid down their lives should be officially accorded the status of martyrs by the Centre," Yadvinder Singh Sandhu, told reporters here.

Sandhu is the grandson of Karveer Singh, brother of Bhagat Singh.

He said that the government should officially declare the names of martyrs and memories related to it.

Sandhu said that when East India Company came to India in 1757 it met opposition and before 1857 - the Sepoy mutiny - the country saw many instances of revolt against the British.

"The government should bring in public domain, documents related to the hanging of Bhagat Singh and other martyrs to acquaint new generation with their heroic deeds", Yadvinder, who is the convener of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Brigade, said.

He said that the government should set up a museum comprising memories related to the martyrs, teach their biographies from class 1 to 12, name national schemes after them and put their pictures on currency notes.

He further said despite nod of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh governments, Chandigarh Airport has not been named after Bhagat Singh yet.

Chandigarh Airport should be named after Bhagat Singh immediately, he added.
