PM and Air Chief to attend Dubai Air Show 2019 in UAE

I was talking more about matching air-to-air power. For example, if an aerial engagement occurred between the two air forces, what's likely to be the outcome?

I'm really surprised at the very low numbers of fighter aircraft in BAF. I don't know whether it's ignorance or whether Bangladesh has outsourced it's security to other nation(s).

It was lack of doctrine. BD had not outsourced its security, it seems GOB and BAF was content to exist without one. Not much as changed to date but we always have the hope that it will.

For the last two decades the excuse as always lack of funding

Bangladesh has a GDP almost equivalent to Pakistan.

It doesn't have nuclear, ballistic weapons program, not involved in neighbourhood wars, no internal insurgencies, no economic, military sanctions but instead has had plenty of time to develop, cover, militarise a much smaller area.

Yet, military has not been modernised. What is Bangladesh waiting for, a Hindu extremist Pearl Harbour?

Perhaps that. Perhaps then Bangladesh will come to its senses. Now people are just to busy fornicating and smoking weed

Bangladesh did exceptionally well by controlling their population growth. in 1971, East Pakistan was more than 55% of the total Pakistani population and now in 2019 Bangladesh population is 16 crore which is 28% less than Pakistan. Economically Bangladesh will soon left india behind, where as Pakistan is no match for Bangladesh which is very shameful for us

We have differing priorities. At point of independence our economy was on its knees. Defense have little relevance if your people are hungry.

BD has spent 50 years developing an economic base, implementing rudimentary social safety net and building up basic infastructure such as road networks and working to ensure enough electricity is produced, kids goong to school etc.

The philosophy was simply we are too numerous a population to be invaded and held by india and the monkeys are not really any threat. As such we concentrated all effort on developing our economy and educating our people.

When all is said an done do we fear india....no.

However now that BD has progressed economically I think it is time to shore up our defenses.

As I said, likely they are gonna watch some planes fly overhead and have some biryani with some locals.
Unless the biryani is Pakistani and they see a JF-17 flying overhead. Buy the JF-17. Myanmar already has it and they are very happy :D don't let them get more happy.

With Pakistan and India, things didn’t escalate further because both are nuclear powers who have lot to lose. Which keeps the, from going in an all out war. But imo if Burmese Air Force conducts air strikes in bd, bd will see it as declaration of war... if Hasina tries to stop it armed forces then she will meet her fathers fate

Losing half a fleet in 90s that we still struggle to recover from is actually a lame excuse by these folks. Those were 2nd gen subsonics, they were bound to go in 10 years time...

Weren't most of these old Chinese copies of Mig-19s (F-6s) from Pakistani inventory?

There is no need for comparison. Pakistanis of today are brothers and sisters to Bangladeshis despite India-inspired politics in Bangladesh. Business to business cooperation will only increase in the future, and Pakistan will turn around in no time once some issues are taken care of.

You cannot discount nor hold down such a large and talented portion of the world economy.

BD should takes this event as an opportunity to further relations with UAE, and other Arab states on defense industry matters. Turkey is farther ahead, but there is still opportunity for TOT, and cooperation on projects for BD.

well you are right we are equally talented, but our politicians drag us to this stage, as Before 90s we were well ahead in the whole region. Anyway me and other Pakistani feel proud what our Bangladeshi brother achieved in economic field

Yeah. I can’t understand the mentality of BAF pilots from back then, even now... I met some dude and they seem intelligent but they were really proud of flying these subsonic relics. As if they’re some advanced fighter... BAF lacks vision... Air Force has been neglected since bangabandhu’s assasination...
I was told Dubai air show is where deals will be signed and finalized, with Hasina and af chief present... I’m skeptical. I see them go into toy store every year only to return empty handed. So idk

BAF pilots come from mostly middle class backgrounds (sweeping generalization - I know) and hence global exposure is lacking. They get treated well, with subsidized housing, all sorts of perks and the typical three-or-more-tier service structure in armed services.

Cocky attitude is a natural and they feel they are a step above 'civilians' socially as armed services career is pretty much a license to mint money, even after retirement.

For a middle class kid with education, it is quite an achievement. Of course in the last two decades, armed services have become much more professional and skills-oriented, just like those of more advanced countries.

But having a sense of 'entitlement' comes naturally.

This said - however, I have to add that there are still a lot of humble folks in the armed services too.
