Plan Afoot to Buy 40 Aircrafts for PIA: Defence Minister

I motion for Zaki Saab to be appointed next PIA Director - Corporate Planning

:police::police:

Should the government be in the transport business? Is that what we need government for?

PIA bleeds public funds and serves as a jobs scheme for politicians - Sell PIA to private entities and get government out of the transport business and back into providing security, law and order and regulation for society.

my feeling is they are having some fear

a.) it's less revenue accrued to govt. --some of which can be squandered away

b.) they may fear that a private enterprise will hike costs further and pass those costs to consumer --fuelling some 'unrest'

(in reality, couldnt be farther from the truth!)

PIA has professional crew, PIA has among the best trained pilots in the world, PIA maintenance facilities are up to par with those in developed countries

problem is all due to poor planning, poor management.

in that sense, quite analagous to the way the country is being run!!!!

Alas!!

Yea good.
They had to CANCEL the whole flight this time because they needed the craft somewhere else !
SICK!
I am now comming on Saudi Airlines !
Dont they understand that they are reducing their own profit !!

Ahmad Mukhar is defense minister and chairman PIA.
Civil Aviation authority is not responsible for sale purchase lol

OK. The news mentioned him as defense minister not PIA chairman that's why the query stuck.

I have not got full reply yet.

Don't you have a civil aviation ministry??

Like PIA is a govt. owned company it should come under civil aviation ministry as in India or some other civil ministry.

no actually it works like this

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority is a Public sector autonomous body working under the Federal Government of Pakistan through the Ministry of Defence. It was established on 7th December, 1982 as an autonomous body. Prior to its creation, a Civil Aviation Department in the Ministry of Defence used to manage the civil aviation related activities

yes there's the CAA.....

PIA is public enterprise, time and time again there have been talks of selling public ownership stakes to private investors; no dice thus far

ground operations are handled through Shaheen, a PAF trust which consists of mostly retired PAF personnel.....unfortunately it too is over-staffed and that is one reason why its not profitable.

PIA needs decrease frequency of lesser travelled routes; induct (or lease) more new medium range aircrafts for trans-national and national role; stop the over-staffing; make online interface and transactions more user-friendly; many other steps

how many aircrafts -if any- in PIA fleet are nearing the end of their service lives? those should be de-commissioned.....Singapore airways maintains a fairly new inventory of aircrafts simply because it is more expensive to keep older aircrafts up to internationally recognized airworthy standards......much more expensive actually. And the costs of being denied airspace due to stringent new regulations are so high -in terms of lost business. And with large diaspora of Pakistanis in EU countries as well as Persian Gulf, we cannot miss out on this opportunity

until recently, PIA was banned in many EU countries ---even though PIA inventory is kept fairly well maintained and safety record is quite good......regulations have became very strict, on point by point basis

p.s. we are getting shat on by Emirates and Qatar airways.......they offer more flights from Pakistan (especially Peshawar) to Persian Gulf countries than even PIA does. SHAME!!

PIA really needs to replace Boeing 737's and Boeing 747.
My suggestion will be to buy new Boeing 737 around 6-7 and lease around 5 relatively new Boeing 747's.Remaining fleet is in good condition.9 Boeing 777 as well as 7 ATR's are new. It is important to replace B747 B737.B747 is crucial for providing high capacity whenever required.Like after Iceland volcanic eruption PIA used B747 on European routes to clear back log.B747 also come in handy during hajj operations.B737 are crucial for domestic routes and need to be replaced quickly.

Last but most important for once run PIA as a business and not as dumping place for PPP jiyala's

Well the Emirates have a stratgey they bought planes , and went negative profit but they had finances to last them 5-6 years untill they captured major market in Asia with agressive pricing and marketing

PIA lost its customer base to Emirates and others

#1 The PIA flight ban in Europe when it refused to buy new planes
Europe put sanctions on it to force it to buy the planes

#2 Also PIA had negative customer satisfaction due to delays in baggage
and extra delays due to passenger screening (which resulted in )
alot of forigne customers not using it as much.

Now while the new planes 42 of them would help it gain new customer base but it will put us under debt 10-14 billion more in negative balance and when PIA is also producing -ve profits for past 3-4 years.

a) Ideally what should be done is , make PIA profitable for next 2-3 years with existing capacity

b) When it makes 1-2 billion profits from the existing planes then use
these funds to aquire planes

c) Ideally PIA should finance 3 new planes on its profits , and 2 should be financed by Gov of Pakistan

Three years

Year one : PIA makes profit of 1.3 billion USD
Year two : PIA makes profit of 1.5 billion USD
Year three: PIA makes profits of 2.0 billion USD

If local flights are running 50% capacity , allow ppl to invite friends
for second empty seat at 25% discounts to get in more revenues better then flying plane with empty seats

It would be quite Profitable for PIA to fly from Australia to Pakistan and let Qantas fly from Pakistan too.
