PLA Chief of General Staaf Meets with Myanmar Guests
15:43 GMT, February 24, 2012 Chen Bingde, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and chief of general staff of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army (PLA), met with Thura Shwe Mann, the visiting speaker of the Lower House of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Myanmar on the afternoon of February 23, 2012 at the Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing.
Chen Bingde said that China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors, and it is in the interests of both sides to further consolidate and develop the relations between the two countries and the two militaries. He stressed that no matter how the international situation fluctuates, the belief in consolidating and developing the friendship between China and Myanmar will never change. The Chinese military is willing to make joint efforts with the Myanmar side to enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation, seek common development and make more contributions to maintaining long-term stability and development of China-Myanmar relations and promoting regional peace and stability.
Thura Shwe Mann noted that the Myanmar government is grateful to the Chinese government and military for their long selfless assistance for Myanmar, and will continue to unswervingly adhere to the friendly policy to China, strive to deepen the pragmatic exchanges and mutually-beneficial cooperation between the two countries, and constantly push forward the development of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Myanmar and China.
Cao Weizhou, deputy secretary general of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of the Peoples Republic of China, and H. E. Mr. Tin Oo, Myanmar ambassador to China, were present at the meeting.
