1 Suspect In Custody After Explosion At Subway Station In Midtown Manhattan

New York City police say a suspect is in custody following an explosion early Monday at a subway station a block away from Times Square.

Police say the male suspect is the only person who was injured in the incident at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue, site of the Port Authority bus terminal and subway stop. The New York City Fire Department had earlier confirmed one nonlife-threatening injury at the scene of the explosion.

Authorities haven't announced what caused the explosion. But The Associated Press reports that "Law enforcement official tells AP that man had explosive device strapped on when it exploded in New York City subway."

Shortly before 8 a.m. ET, police said a blast was reported during the morning commute in Midtown. The NYPD said that in the city's subway system, "The A, C and E line are being evacuated at this time."

The Port Authority issued a tweet saying, "The Port Authority Bus Terminal is open. Due to police activity, the entrance to the subway at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on Eighth Avenue is closed."

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio's office says that he has been briefed about the incident, adding, "The NYPD, FDNY and first responders are on the scene."

President Trump "has been briefed on the explosion in New York City," White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said via a tweet.

The suspect has been identified as 27yo Akayed Ullah.

Thank goodness no one was seriously hurt or killed. May the terrorist rat rot in prison for the rest of his sorry life.

• Was it really strapped on to his body?
• Or did the person was a suspect becasue he was sitting close to incident and got blown away?

Looks like same, same sad (helpless) eyes. But you are right could be someone that looks similar.

It's not just colored people that look similar, chinese look more similar to each other.

On the other hand...

What if he was at the wrong place at the wrong time?

He should be treated as innocent until proven guilty, many white americans will jump the gun on this one and be 100% certain he is to blame. But that wouldn't be fair, let's wait and see the evidence.

Also if you think about it, it wouldn't be so difficult to plan something like this as to setup someone to be the fall guy.

Reminds me of all those hollywood movies, where the CIA or some external intelligence organisation is behind attacks like these.

For example Mossad spied on Germany ( I think ) and comitted lot's of crime and it was always thought it was the turkish MIT, only many years later did we learn that it was Mossad, they had planned it so well as to make it look like turkish intelligence was doing it.
